Commuting handbag

I'm looking for a handbag which I can comfortably put everything in during my working week, that I can carry on a train, that has at least 2 internal zip up pockets. I need to be able to slip a thin A4 sized laptop or A4 notebook in. It needs to have 2 shoulder straps that are long enough to fit over a bulky winter coat and not slide down.

This DKNY one fits pretty much all my criteria but a) it's probably £50 too expensive even in the sale and b) I don't like all the blingy gold chain stuff.

Does anyone have any bright ideas please? Looked at John Lewis, Debenhams, Hobbs, Mint Velvet, Accessorize and House of Fraser.

It doesn't have the zip pockets but I bought a Radley Pocket Essentials tote in August and have used it constantly since then. I put the things I used to put in the zip pockets in make-up bags inside. I love it.

Have you looked at Knomo? Expensive but some options in the Black Friday sale

would a kipling one like this suit? it only has one shoulder strap but it could easily be put over a winter coat

Mia Tui have some nice work bags with compartments inside. I've just bought one and the quality is good, but they aren't real leather

I have a great Ralph Lauren one that fits the bill. Got it pre owned off eBay for £70ish.

Marmablade · 27/11/2019 20:09

Some great ideas there thank you! The Knomo is probably meeting the brief most closely but it looks a little bit laptop baggy (I did say it needed to fit a laptop so I can't really complain 🙈) The others have beautiful colours and lower prices going for them.

I have a DKNY one pretty much the same as the one in your link and you can't get a laptop in it easily and it's so firmly structured I can't get everything I need in it (I commute too). I end up carrying another bag!! Following as I am keen for a solution... but also don't feel bad about the DKNY one being too steeply priced as it's not worth it!!

@lettersbyowl excellent news! Thanks for taking me off the hook.

I can recommend the Mia tui Sydney bag - it's a bag pack & is so easy to carry stuff in link

If you prefer a shoulder bag I'd recommend the Zoe or Jenny bags from Mia tui

StrayWoman · 28/11/2019 06:35

I have the Mia Tui Jennie and it's the best bag I've ever had. Fits my laptop, loads of pockets, insulated bottle holders, phone holder. Also amazing for flights.

sittingonacornflake · 28/11/2019 06:42

I have the large Radley millbank. It's pretty practical. Could be a touch bigger but I take a lot of snacks Blush

Marmablade · 28/11/2019 15:11

Those Jennie colours are lovely. Where stocks Mia Tui so I can see them in the flesh? And Knomo please?

Ooh I'm not sure if places stock Mia Tui, I've never seen them in shops. I bought mine online.

But they do returns so you could always order one and return it if you don't like it.

RagingBall · 28/11/2019 20:15

Mia tui has a shop in Milton Keynes area, but if you're not near there it may be worth buying preloved to try one out - there's a few Jennie bags on Facebook market place at the moment

StrayWoman · 28/11/2019 20:30

Sorry, I get beyond preachy about Mia Tui bags, I've bought them for 2 family members for Christmas.

I will be replacing my Jennie every time it falls apart for the rest of my life. Grin

I've got my eye on this. 20% off at the moment
