Decent straight leg jeans

Through a process of extensive research I've discovered that straight leg jeans work best for me, and for the last couple of years I've been happily wearing FatFace jeans most days of the week (I work from home). However, they no longer do exactly the same ones and on-line reviews aren't very positive about the new version - especially because they don't have any stretch in them - I'm an apple shaped size 14/16, so stretch is rather important for me. As my two pairs of FatFace jeans get progressively tattier, I'm now looking for others. Ideally, a brand which was the cheap end of mid-price (up to £50) easily available and perhaps available in different colour ways. Help!!

I bought amazing Seven for all Mankind straight leg jeans on eBay uk for £50. I had the brand before and I loved the feel of the denim but decided to try eBay as even at sale prices they are expensive new. The ones I bought are black, straight leg and so, so soft, with a little stretch - really comfy.

You could also try TK Maxx for them or for Citizens of Humanity (also soft denim) but they may be about £65 in there.

7 for all mankind are very comfortable. I bought some Fat Face ones but have put them somewhere and can't find them. I have so many jeans.

Gap is pretty good for comfortable jeans if you are prepared to try various styles and sizes and are usually quite reasonable.

Otherwise, I'd try brands like Levi's.

Gap straight leg jeans are great.

MaudesMum · 27/11/2019 14:36

Ooh, I'd forgotten Gap - all I need to do is to find a spare hour for some trying on next time I'm in town. Will investigate 7 for all Mankind and Citizens of Humanity.. Thank you!

M&S Lily jeans. They are fab. In between a straight leg and a skinny and a high waist. I love them. And they are only £19.50.

MikeUniformMike · 27/11/2019 14:44

I'd recommend M&S for comfort and value but the last pair I bought were size 6 and they were too big. I'm normally a small 8. Size down if you are 14/16.

Levi 510 , slim straight leg , my new favourite for winter as can wear with boots , I buy vintage off eBay as I do with 501s , be careful as there are new ones listed for under 50 but I'm guessing are fakes , so far this month I've bought blue grey and black
For ref a 33 w is 12/14 32 a small 12 so I would say a 34 is small 16 and 36 16/18

I recently got the Pepe ones, a brand I've not worn for decades. They are excellent, a lot of stretch, hold their shape, true to size, and leg length from short to extra long.

More to try - thank you everyone! I do have 1 pair of M&S at the moment which are ok, but have no idea which of the 100s of varieties they are. Will investigate!

Gap Real Straight are great, sizing seems to vary with the wash as does the amount of stretch so it’s worth going into a store and trying a load on.

Twigletgirl27 · 27/11/2019 18:49

I can second M&S Lily jeans. They are slim legged rather than straight but perfect with boots. Also have M&S magic smooth and magic sculpt in slim leg and love them

fastliving · 27/11/2019 19:00

I bought a couple of pairs of jeans from Zara recently, I was pleasantly surprised to see they were £25 (as opposed to top shop £40) and they were both soft and with a little stretch.

nitgel · 27/11/2019 19:01

Levi 714

MikeUniformMike · 27/11/2019 20:59

I have the Gap Real Straight. Having got used to the Gap sizing I love their jeans.

I have lots of Levis too. And a few 7 forall mankind ...
Just one pair of other brands most too good to throw out. All good.

The ones I bought and didn't get on with were the M&s as too big, and Uniqlo always stretch too much on me after a couple of hours wear, but they look nice and are otherwise comfy. It might be me because I;ve lost a bit too much weight.

tobee · 28/11/2019 01:50

I've recently tried a lot of different slim or straight jeans.

I was surprised that the ones I liked the most were Next brand lift, slim and shape slim jeans - yes the word slim is used twice. They are £45 and extremely soft and comfortable.

tobee · 28/11/2019 02:06

Principles Yasmin slim leg jeans not bad either but not as soft at £28 in the sale

BeardedMum · 28/11/2019 05:57
