Which brand of deodorant actually works?

I have Nivea black and white at the moment, and it’s not cutting the mustard (not that I smell of mustard)!
I run around the place with kids and work, I don’t think I’m a super sweaty person but by the end of the day I need a shower. DH assures me I don’t properly hum, but can anyone recommend a common brand (read: not £5+) that takes them through a whole day?

Recently discovered the expensive Sure...it's £4.99 for the spray and promises 72hr protection (really not sure you'd want to go that long without soap and water, but I digress) and it's brilliant. Couple that with their night before cream deodorant and it equals stink-free pits allll day!!! And it's stopped the transfer of the smell onto teenage DC's school shirts once and for all.

Another vote for Mitchum stick. Very much the only one that works for me. I try to use it every other day (use others in between) because am also worried about what's in it

TacoFlavouredKisses · 26/11/2019 17:49

The industrial strength £5 Mitchum for sure, it's a game changer!

TigerDroveAgain · 26/11/2019 17:50

Vichy 48 hour treatment: it’s brilliant and smells nice

Lollypop701 · 26/11/2019 17:54

Try washing with proper soap rather than body wash... game changer!

MyEnormousTurnip · 26/11/2019 17:56

I don’t get on with Mitchum personally.

However after years of being sweaty I’ve now discovered that using a stick deodorant (or a cream like Vaseline Intensive Care) followed by a spray of aerosol deodorant keeps me smelling sweet all day. I’m a cleaner and get very sweaty. I’m currently using Dove stick and Aldi spray. It’s a revelation.

Gizlotsmum · 26/11/2019 18:13

As someone else said do you use showergel/moisturising soap? The only thing that works for my daughter is simple soap.

showmethegin · 26/11/2019 18:14

I used to use Mitchum and it bought me out in a rash. I use men's spray on. Like literally any men's anti perspirant. It's stronger!

lettersbyowl · 26/11/2019 18:14

Another for the standard Mitchum roll on or stick. The £5 is good too and I take that on holiday, but the normal one is just fine the rest of the time!

Destinesia · 26/11/2019 18:16

Vichy has never let me down, been using it for more than 20 years, lasts about a month. Armpits are completely dry. Every few months I switch to the Mitchum stick in case my body gets used to the Vichy and it stops working.

MrsBennetsnerves · 26/11/2019 18:26

Another vote for Mitchum. I was descending into postmenopausal sweaty hell before I tried it and it was the only thing that really lasted all day. I prefer the stick as the roll on is slow to dry but both work.

Quitplayinggameswithmyart · 26/11/2019 19:35

Fabulous, thank you all so much for replying. I think I’ll try Mitchum due to overwhelming support for the brand!
(As for washing, I use soap or shower gel; and I’m fug-free post bathe!)

Late to the party, but adding another vote for Mitchum.

stripeypillowcase · 26/11/2019 19:39

nivea sensitive
are you putting it onto freshly washed skin? and are you letting it properly dry before getting dressed?

Smelly50 · 26/11/2019 19:44

Again mitchum , I prefer the roll on . Been using it for years and would never buy anything else

Dementedmagpie · 26/11/2019 19:46

Mitchum roll on or a pale blue sure one. I get whichever is on offer, I rarely pay full price for any toiletries!!

Elieza · 26/11/2019 19:46

I would have voted for Mitchum. It’s great. I used it myself. Then a female relative got breast cancer and I started reading stuff. She used that for years. These anti-perspirants nearly all contain aluminium which blocks up our pores and that’s why we don’t sweat.
Too much of a risk for me now. If I’m a bit stinky so be it!

CherryMaple · 26/11/2019 19:52

PitRok spray works great for everyone in our house. And it’s ‘natural’ - no aluminium. I would definitely go for the spray not the stick though...

Pollaidh · 26/11/2019 19:56

Driclor, again semi-medicinal. I use once a month or so, and then normal Sure roll on the rest of the time, has totally stopped the sweating.

those crystal deodorants are usually alum, which is an aluminium salt also used in anti perspirants.
just to put that out there for those wanting to avoid aluminium...
