My husband is in the armed forces and we have a mess function to attend. It’ll be my first one. I’ve ordered these four dresses but had some mixed opinions from a friend. What do you all think?

PMC is head of Mess Committee (group of mess members in charge of mess affairs, not linked to rank as such). The Army loves it's TLAs (three letter acronyms)

FinallyHere · 26/11/2019 11:28

Good call, sounds perfect.

RSM Regimental Sergeant Major, probably the regiment's most senior warrant officer

3 does look as if it would be the most comfortable to wear . Enjoy your party.

Okayokay1 · 26/11/2019 13:27

The other 3 dresses should arrive tomorrow so I’ll take more pics then and you can all help me decide ☺️ Thanks everyone.

My husband was PMC of his WOs' & Sgts' Mess before he retired and he says all of the dresses would be acceptable, particularly if the serving Mess members will be in Mess Dress. I'd probably have had a shawl if a dress was off the shoulder, though.
I always used to love getting dressed up for the Mess functions. I still miss it.

emma6776 · 26/11/2019 22:35

Ex-army here. Any of those dresses would be suitable for the mess dos I’ve been too. Will probably end in a naked bar anyway!

PurpleFrames · 26/11/2019 22:38

Personally the thigh slit is not something I'd advise. Love the colour green tho 😍

MrsCollinssettled · 26/11/2019 22:43

2+4 fine with shawl. 1 is borderline. 3 is risky. Depends on how formal the mess is. Can you ask a female member of the mess?

Okayokay1 · 27/11/2019 15:52

2 more options Smile

The second picture again doesn’t show the colour which is stunning. But you can see the colour of it in my OP.

Sorry, the lighting in my bedroom is awful!

I love them all you look great & think they’d all fit in. Whichever you feel best in!

AnneKipanki · 27/11/2019 16:00

Just what I was going to write @northerngirl2012 .

LochJessMonster · 27/11/2019 16:03

I think that dress is lovely, can you add a few stitches to make the slit a bit lower if you are worried?
Its got long sleeves and a covered top so that balances out the slit (imo)

LochJessMonster · 27/11/2019 16:05

^^ Sorry, didn't see the second page, my above comment was for the 1st dress, the velvet with slit.

I really really like the green off the shoulder one and think its beautiful and classy.

Okayokay1 · 27/11/2019 16:06

I’m going to have to return the navy one. There are 3 holes which have appeared above the slit. It’s really badly stitched so any stretching of the fabric at all (from putting it on) just causes it to tear. So it’s between the last 2 now. The other one, which I haven’t tried on, is almost a £100 more expensive so I’d rather choose one of these 😊

The green off the shoulder one. Gorgeous!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/11/2019 16:11

The first of the two is more Christmas Ball, the second is more Dinner Night. Christmas Ball tends to be a bit more glitzy. Both are lovely though (and you have the figure for them)

combatbarbie · 27/11/2019 16:13

The 2nd or 4th will be fine..... Avoid anything with a split!!! Some messes allow it, some don't.... As the serving one I wouldn't even chance it lol

AnneKipanki · 27/11/2019 16:15

The green one is elegant. I would go for that one on second thoughts .

combatbarbie · 27/11/2019 16:15

Just seen he said anything below knee is fine..... Any of them then!! Xmas ball... Glitzier the better!!

shinynewapple · 27/11/2019 16:21

I like the off the shoulder one. It looks really classy - and you have a brilliant figure.

I have no idea about the appropriateness is the occasion though.

Mammyloveswine · 27/11/2019 16:29

Love the green one! Sophisticated and classy! Plus perfect colour for this time of year!

Okayokay1 · 27/11/2019 20:11

I’ve decided to go for the green one! Thanks so much everyone ☺️

What colour should I go for on my nails?
