Those “curved” hair straightener ads on insta/fb

Keep seeing them. Where you just pull through and end up with an amazing tonged curl and get make beachy waves really fast, But only seem to link to dodgy sites with no decent reviews. Are they to good to be true?
When I try and look up proper Hair tool brands I only see traditional tongs or wands. Anyone got one?

Guess no one has

No but I did google the brands to read reviews from somewhere other than Instagram. Sometimes you find them on amazon. The reviews aren't great to be honest, lots of people struggle to get them to work.

Nat6999 · 25/11/2019 13:38

If you want back waves, the best way is large barrel curling tongs, don't put the ends in the clamp, start an inch & a half from the ends& wind towards the roots, section hair below ear level first, tong in sections, then hair to a normal parting level, then the top, allow it all to cool & then rake through with fingers, use salt spray to stop that newly washed look.

Elbeagle · 25/11/2019 13:42

Nat6999 if you don’t put the ends in the clamp how do you stop the hair sliding off the barrel? I just can’t get it to work!

Drbrowns · 25/11/2019 13:45

Sorry about the insanely long link. My friend has one of these and loves it for the curl. It gives a very big ringlet curls but once you brush out it’s lovely.

Goawayquickly · 25/11/2019 13:46

They’re from China, I see these ads a lot, as you say questionable websites.

Allegorical · 25/11/2019 14:11

Obvs no I am looking for a link I can’t see one!! As soon as I see one I will copy and post. But no they aren’t like the link above. The ones I have seen the most are like a Champaign colour look like a flat iron but seem to curl the hair as you pull through.

I just looked and think it’s called an iron-pro , is it this?

I've seen the ads but not actually seen any reviews (not ones I would trust anyway) but I think GHD have just released something similar. Obviously being GHD it will be pricey but I think they have them in certain stores to test.

Allegorical · 25/11/2019 17:34

Yeah that looks like it.

It’s the Tyne one - I bought one when it was really really reduced and like mine for an evening out. I wouldn’t have paid full price and I don’t have much experience with other straighteners/curlers to compare but I do like it

Littleelffriend · 25/11/2019 17:45

I bought one of the Chinese ones it’s either shite or I can’t use it, probably the latter.

SuperficialSuzie · 25/11/2019 17:52

I got one of Amazon a while back - it is a cheapo copy of the Tyne styler - cost about £30 and by copying the tutorials on the Tyne website I can get a decent curl

Goawayquickly · 25/11/2019 18:03

The picture I posted of the product is £13 on Ali Express and I would bet it’s the same as keeps being advertised on Facebook with site names like house of love.

I had one of these in the past, it was awful

PrimalLass · 25/11/2019 18:15

The real one is a Tyme iron.

Allegorical · 25/11/2019 18:19

Ok so Google’s iron pro and found it. The brand one is the Tyme iron pro but the reviews are pretty negative! Oh well saved myself some money!!!

WalkAwaySugarbear · 25/11/2019 18:23

I wanted a straightener that also curls, I bought a cheap Remington slim straightener £16 from Amazon. Watched a youtube vid to figure out how to curl with one and it works brilliantly.

Mummyshark2018 · 25/11/2019 18:27

I have the iron pro and can't get them to curl my hair nicely. Always ends up with a sharp ending. I'm pretty good at curling my hair with normal straighteners!

Allegorical · 25/11/2019 18:34

Sorry thanks just realised there were new posts saying it was a tyme iron. Thanks.
I also found the new ghd oracle which is rather expensive and scary loooking. Hmm. My drawer is full of useless gadgets!

I have the Tyme iron and had to watch a few tutorials on you tube before I got the hang of it / the knack is in the turn of the wrist. I tried the new GHD oracle but couldn't get away with it
