I need a DM tutorial!

My dd (16) would like some DMs for Christmas. I think I was about her age when I got my first pair Smile They've got so complicated, though! Has anyone bought any recently and can explain the various different types?

My DD 19 wears the lace up boots. She has had different colours, but always that style.
I had DM brogues and Mary Janes as well as the boots when I was younger. I like the look of the Chelsea boots.
What style did you wear? And what look is your daughter going for?

I’d get soft leather lace up pascals. (Technically I’d personally get the vegan ones now but the soft leather ones are comfy straight away and come in a lovely range of colours).

These are the style I mean.

Thanks both. She wants the classic lace-up boots (which is what I had too), but they seem to come in lots of different versions now. If the Pascals are softer than the traditional boots then they sound perfect.

Pascals are softer but also a lot narrower. You'll need to try them on first, I couldn't even get my usual size pascal over the top of my foot!

ToftheB · 23/11/2019 21:30

I second the Pascals recommendation. Mine were comfortable straight away and are lovely to wear. I've got an unusual light grey colour (a tk maxx bargain) but you can't go wrong with black or dark red.

PurpleDaisies · 23/11/2019 21:31

That’s interesting-I found my pascals ok and bought my usual size. My vegan pascals were narrower and took a bit of wearing in.

hammeringinmyhead · 23/11/2019 23:09

Yep, Pascal Virginia in black wore in far more quickly than my standard leather ones. I bought my usual size.

I've got Pascal boots and the traditional 1460s and I've not found any difference in sizing. The Pascals are softer.

Ellapaella · 24/11/2019 09:11

I have very wide feet so maybe that's way. But I definitely couldn't even get my foot in the pascals. No problems with the original boots which is what I needed up going for. Only thing I would say is that they stretch quite a lot so if you don't have wide feet it might even be worth sizing down by half a size.

Thanks all. We have a DM shop nearby, so it sounds like she needs to try the original 1460s and the Pascals, then we can make a call on size and softness.
