Do you know what you're wearing Christmas Day?

We aren't going too far this year, got immediate family coming to us Smile I'm torn between:

A) Getting dressed up and looking all swish
B) Getting a novelty Christmas dress/jumper
C) Being a slob Grin

What are you wearing? Bonus points for pics!

@Getoffmylilo brilliant

Pipandmum · 23/11/2019 14:55

Black top and long skirt (nothing special I'm wearing it today) but pretty chiffon jacket over the top and nice jewelry.
It's abroad at my sisters house and there will be non family guests too. My son might wear a shirt and my daughter a tasteful Christmas jumper.

SpiderCharlotte · 23/11/2019 14:55

I shall be resplendent in green sequins. Tacky or no, I care not a jot - it's Christmas Day and I'll be at my sisters. Can't wait!

raisinseverywhere · 23/11/2019 15:00

I’m cooking for 15 people and it will be hectic, so unfortunately I’ll probably be best wearing old clothes that I don’t have to worry about getting oil/gravy etc split down...
However, Boxing Day will wear a satin bias cut skirt and a jumper.

LilyJade · 23/11/2019 15:09

What I wear depends on my weight loss before the day!!

Liskee · 23/11/2019 15:16

@happytobemrsg May I ask where you get your fine knit jumpers? I'm struggling to find any I like to go with a couple of similar skirts to yours! Thank you Smile

Talisin · 23/11/2019 15:19

Long, dark red velvet dress. Comfortable, festive and flattering (with room to expand).

Drabarni · 23/11/2019 15:25

leggings or tights with a warm tunic, or a dress.
haven't decided yet.
I like taking lots of pics so we get dressed early.

KiteflyingKat · 23/11/2019 15:35

I refuse to buy Christmas jumpers or anything else that will ultimately end up at landfill and would encourage people to think of the environment before buying Christmas jumpers / dresses etc

I don’t make a particular effort for Christmas but will probably throw on a sparkly jumper (not a Christmas specific one)

BeatriceTheBeast · 23/11/2019 15:39

@kiteflyingkat

Why is a sparkly jumper any better than a christmas jumper? I don't wear them (don't like them), but anything with glitter in it is probably plastic and will hang around for ages in landfill. If you're an adult, you could hang on to a wool, christmas jumper for decades, wearing it only at christmas and when it goes to landfill it will do less damage than your sparkly jumper, surely. Unless I'm missing something...?

I agree with you if it's a case of buying a new, sparkly christmas jumper every year and then binning it, but who on earth does that?

Thisnamechanger · 23/11/2019 15:40

Bikini and sundress Grin

Fluffiest · 23/11/2019 15:50

This thread is making me want to shop! My normal Christmas day outfit is a red tartan a-line skirt and a nice soft jumper, with black tights and ankle boots/slipper boots.

But my tartan skirt has unfortunately got worn out so I don't know what to wear.

I do have a Christmas jumper but always feel that is too informal for Christmas day itself although I wear it as much as possible throughout the rest of December. By the way, this will be the third year I've worn this Christmas jumper, and will continue to use it each year until it wears out so I don't really see how it is environmentally worse than any other piece of clothing.

BarkandCheese · 23/11/2019 15:54

Why would a Christmas jumper end up in landfill? Christmas might only come once a year, but it comes every year. I don't throw my clothes away after one season of wear (actually I don't throw clothes away at all if I get rid of them they go to the charity shop or rag bin),

I've got two Christmas jumpers, both bought in charity shops so recycled once already. I'll definitely be wearing on on Christmas Day for dog walking. Probably thrown over a black and silver sparkly dress and black tights.

Lucked · 23/11/2019 16:24

That’s like saying you wouldn’t buy a bikini because it’s only good for 2 weeks of the year. Most people just put seasonal clothes away - the dress I might wear on Christmas Day looks quite festive but it is about 7 years old now and I consider it as having been a good buy!

SpiderCharlotte · 23/11/2019 16:55

I have a Christmas jumper - nothing classy about it, but I wear it a good few times before Christmas every year. I don't throw my jumpers out after each season and I've had this particular jumper for about eight years. It's not any more likely to end up in landfill than anything else I own and like a PP, I don't just throw my clothes away.

drivingtofrance · 23/11/2019 17:00

I'll be cooking , serving amd clearing for about 12 guests so probably jeans and a Xmas t-shirt.

Not v exciting but need to be able to move and keep cool.

Inniu · 23/11/2019 17:11

I like to dress up a bit, A red dress, covered by an elf apron for the first half of the day.

Probably this dress because I have it

Nishky · 23/11/2019 17:13

Pyjamas

AlisonS13 · 23/11/2019 17:19

Cooking for 12 to 16 people I'll be in linen trousers and a cotton sleeveless top and sandals. All windows open as well as kitchen door. (Menopause is murder in the winter!!!)

Ellapaella · 23/11/2019 18:27

This glittery AllSaints jumper that I've just ordered with coated black jeans and some nice dangly earrings. We don't do much Christmas Day but we will take the dog out and stop at our local pub on the way home for a drink and to say merry Christmas to a few friends before coming home for Christmas dinner.

PhoneLock · 23/11/2019 18:53

A red bikini and a Santa hat.

Bluewavescrashing · 23/11/2019 19:00

Not fashionable but

Navy jumper dress from Fat Face with festive scandi trim

Leggings

Slippers

I'll be washed, dressed, with natural makeup and clean hair. The jumper dress is a flattering shape for me and I'll be comfy and have room for dinner 😁

Can't be bothered wearing anything cold as we're visiting my in laws in their freezing big house. Also I'll be down on the floor playing with DCs and want to be comfortable.

Bluewavescrashing · 23/11/2019 19:02

I like the idea of a Christmas jumper over sparkly dress and tights. Sounds comfy. 👍🎄👗

itsgettingweird · 23/11/2019 19:15

Some new leggings. Didn't intend to have new but wanted free delivery when ordering some Xmas gifts and so they were effectively half price Grin

I then wear a Christmas top of some sort. I have a few jumpers and t shirts and will pick one dependent on how I feel.

I work in a special school so wear something Christmassy the last few days for assembly, disco, Xmas lunch, staff show etc! We finish so late this year it may well just end up being what's clean and dry!

I stay in PJs all morning and just get dressed to go to my parents. I'm in PJs again 5 minutes after getting h9me Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/11/2019 19:16

I am always a big torn on Christmas Day. In my family we dress up, in DP’s they absolutely don’t. This year we are hosting, so I am either going to wear a gold sequinned midi skirt with black cashmere polo neck, opaques, and black Stan Smiths, or black Levi’s 501s with a silver sparkly Topshop Boutique jumper, and DM church boots.

Generally I get to the soaps and am desperate to put my pyjamas on!

ella I love that jumper. Is there a Black Friday deal on?
