Which dress and how to keep warm!! (Pics)

I have an awards lunch thing in London middle of December. Catching the train up, but fortunately a taxi the other side.

I have these two dresses but am unsure which to go with. The black is one shoulder and I have black shoes. The dark blue is more comfortable but wondering if the black shoes would work.

But with both, I have no idea how to keep warm!! Have a nice (though not properly warm) coat. It's once I'm at the venue I'll freeze without a covering of some sort. What does one wear with dresses like these?

Thanks

This is the back of the blue dress. The black one is the same back and front.

I think thr blue one, it's more appropriate for a lunch event. The other is more evening wear.

Plump82 · 23/11/2019 12:25

I much prefer the dark blue one but I'm not sure about the shoes. They're a little too office wear. Do you have anything strappy? What's the venue? If there's a lot if people there are you sure you'll be so cold?

WineIsMyCarb · 23/11/2019 12:26

I like both, but think the blue one is more 'appropriate' for lunch and it being a Work do.

You have amazing hair.

I wouldn't worry about just wearing black shoes with it - no one will notice.

Do you have some sort of fur collar thing? I would wear a dark coloured coat over the top and a fur collar over it. Then just the fur to keep warm when coats come off.

Apileofballyhoo · 23/11/2019 12:26

The blue dress is nicer and you could wear a thermal vest under it.

Disfordarkchocolate · 23/11/2019 12:27

Blue one for me, it's very flattering.

PrincessWatermelon · 23/11/2019 12:30

Blue sounds like the winner. I'm glad. I feel better in it.

Had forgotten I had a furry thing. Again, it's black. I'll put a pic up of it with the blue dress.

Thermal vest is an idea!! Definitely need something. I hate being too cold.

Footwear - I have these Ruby Shoos. One pair is black and the other blue (with burgundy and cream). Opinions?

The blue one with the two shoulders. Can’t you just wear a coat?

peachypetite · 23/11/2019 12:36

Posted too early. Should have said wear a coat there and won’t you be warm inside

PrincessWatermelon · 23/11/2019 12:39

I've not been to this venue. When I went previously I was cold the whole time. My friend went to this venue last year and she said the same.

Men will be wearing shirts and jackets. And we have to be there with bare arms and back? If it's warm enough for me, then all the men will be sweating!!!

Love the one shouldered one. I'd just wear a big fur coat and if it was cold in the venue put it on! X x

StarlightLady · 23/11/2019 18:54

OP - The one shouldered one is quite special, but how confident are you with regard to the bra?

PrincessWatermelon · 23/11/2019 19:32

@StarlightLady I have a strapless one that'd do the job. I was too lazy to dig it out when I tried it on! So you'd vote black?

MN still won't let me post pictures 5&6 annoyingly...

Blue dress looks great. So does your door btw. Love it. I’d wear a silk slip underneath, they tend to do the trick without getting uncomfortable.

Ilikesweetpeas · 23/11/2019 21:43

I think the blue for a day time do, your hair is lovely Smile

thedevilinablackdress · 23/11/2019 21:44

Not that I'm saying you have to buy something new, but you don't have to go with bare arms etc.
I'd be wearing something with sleeves personally.
What about a bolero jacket type thing, loads on eBay.

Anoisagusaris · 23/11/2019 21:47

Blue one but different shoes.

You know you don’t have to have bare arms and back??? Plenty of dresses or other outfits would keep you as warm as the men! Wink

PrincessWatermelon · 23/11/2019 22:10

Thanks. Yes. You're absolutely right. I could find something more weather appropriate. And that might be a good idea. Had just hoped not to have to buy something new.

It doesn't sound like there's a magic some TV big that I'm missing. I might go with a large pretty blue scarf with my coat and then leave it on if I need to.

I have got some other footwear options, but I can't post pics at the mo 😡
