Was in the store today and had a look at the beauty products. Mostly, I didn't recognise the brands although some of them looked tempting.

Is that because they're rubbish stock brought in from here, there and everywhere; stuff they've made themselves or the type of lesser known brand usually found in Space NK?

Urgh.. They're all opened and sampled! Skip the makeup for sure in TKs. I say this as a fan of the shop!

nitgel · 22/11/2019 21:45

I got a three pack of lipstick queen lipsticks that were perfect for 4.99. There are gems to be found. They used to see alot of Nars online too. Its always worth a look ime

EmpressJewel · 23/11/2019 21:46

I think its all 3 (good brands, niche and random crap).

If I'm interested in a product in TK Maxx from a brand I have never heard of, I will google them whilst I'm instore. Sometimes it is just a brand I haven't come across before but other times there is nothing on line.

TheNinkiestNonk · 23/11/2019 21:50

The hair stuff is fab..... proper salon stuff if you fall lucky. I got some vita liberata fake tan stuff which is £40 please n boots and the best fake tan ever!

Pomley · 23/11/2019 21:57

You need to check anything you buy as a lot have been swatched, eurgh. But they do have some decent brands in if you catch them at the right time! I've bought an Anatasia BH palette, Too Faced pallet (they always seem to have shades from the Melted range too), Urban Decay mascara, some Becca bits and also Tigi shampoo; all for quite an impressive saving. It helps if you know when they get their deliveries in as a lot of their stuff does seem to be some sort of own brand, despite the odd amazing find.

ReeRi · 23/11/2019 23:09

TK Maxx have something great beauty bargains. You can shop online and then no one has messed with the make up

TitusOatesLivesNextDoor · 23/11/2019 23:25

Thanks for the tips and comments-I don't know why I didn't think of googling while I'm standing there looking at them but I will do in future.

Tk max online for make up is the way to go. All sealed 👌🏾

Pangur2 · 23/11/2019 23:30

I got the ABH Sultry palette today and apparently the Norvina one is floating around too. I've got a few ABH, Too Faced and Urban Decay things from TKMaxx. You do have to check they haven't been messed with, but they get some great stuff!

Sarcelle · 23/11/2019 23:34

Some of the products smell off. Perhaps they buy products that are reaching the end of their shelf life.

Richlyfruited · 24/11/2019 08:22

TK Maxx is great for beauty Smile My local one had vastly reduced Laura Mercer stuff in there last time I looked. The perfume is also worth checking out for niche brands.

I like the natural beauty section for Korres products and some of the more unknown (to me) makes. Got some fantastic Swedish shampoo a while ago - the only issue being you can never guarantee to find it again!

TheStuffedPenguin · 24/11/2019 09:07

The more expensive stuff is usually in those sealed plastic boxes . Have had great deals on Bare Minerals sets in there.

Littlepumpkinpie · 24/11/2019 10:00

The best time to look at the beauty products is when the delivery has just been put outin a morning

ReeRi · 24/11/2019 12:46

My local had lots of the UD Naked Cherry the other day

FirenzeArno · 24/11/2019 21:04

Quite often it's old stock though. I used to use the Estée Lauder New Dimensions range but it was discontinued about 2 years ago but it has cropped up online recently in TK Maxx. Although I loved the products I was afraid to chance it - who knows whether it would still be usable after 2 years in a warehouse somewhere.

ReeRi · 25/11/2019 15:57

You don’t know how old something is anyway though and most items are fine for a while unopened hence they have on the life once opened and not a general use by date

Lamentations · 25/11/2019 19:37

I often google unfamiliar brands in there to verify the rrp on the sticker and assess if it looks decent.

They have a lot of Sampar and Leirac in the ones near me, which are both lovely legit expensive French pharmacy brands.

LemonPrism · 25/11/2019 21:15

They have decent Korean stuff and hair products

Butterflycookie · 25/11/2019 21:21

I bought some pai skincare from there and they had the best before date on them. They were in date. So I don’t think they’d sell anything that is off. There’s some great skincare brands that they sell.

Spied · 25/11/2019 21:24

Agree with a pp. It smells off.
Palettes usually smashed/ damaged

ReeRi · 26/11/2019 09:33

Palettes usually smashed/ damaged

Unfortunately people open things and mess about with them in store but that’s different to them being off?

I don’t know. I have bought a lot of things from TK Maxx and never found anything to be off but that could happen anywhere

FuckingBUTTERbeans · 26/11/2019 10:24

I only ever buy sealed make up, and will check the skincare carefully, avoiding anything in a jar that could have been tested. The buying the make up online thing is genius!

I've found quite a lot of things that are great but being discontinued, which is why they are at TKMaxx, which can be frustrating if you fall in love with something. Also, I've found some great stuff that is just there because the company have redesigned their packaging and are getting rid of the older design, or have slightly reformulated.

Best recent purchase was the Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint for £14. They never usually have foundation in my shade!

FuckingBUTTERbeans · 26/11/2019 10:25

And I also Google instore, and just check ingredients in skincare to see if it's something I might like.

WeCameToDanceWithTheDead · 26/11/2019 10:27

I was in a big Tk Maxx the other day looking at their beauty selection. I don't get it. The products that were well packaged and didn't appear damaged were all brands I've never heard off. It was a massive shame as well as there were some genuinely good products but they were all beyond useably smashed. A Becca highlighting pallette where not a single colour was intact. Laura Mercier lipsticks and single eyeshadows taken out of their packaging and tested god knows how many times. Anastasia BH lipsticks in either bright teal or mud brown each to their own.
There were quite a few Clarins products that looked unused as far as I could tell though and one Chanel nail varnish that looked passable. Overall a waste of time if you ask me.

Twatwaffles · 26/11/2019 10:34

They're all opened and sampled!

Often the higher end stuff is in those clear security boxes, I've had some good buys from there but even if if they have been in the boxes, I always ask the counter assistant if I/she can check the seals before I walk away with it as I have been disappointed to find one opened once when I got home ... and it was an expensive mistake! 😬
