Dress for my daughter's uni ball... help?!

My daughter has a winter ball to go to.... at uni.

It's a bit special as she didn't ever get to go to one of those prom things at school due to social problems and anxiety

Now she's at uni and away from all that she has truly come out of her shell.

And she needs a dress. We are stumped. We tried a few high street shops to nonavail.

She is 18, 5ft 3 and a size 12. She has long dark hair and blue eyes with quite an olive skin tone.

She usually shops in urban outfitters so a lot of the formal type dresses just were not her taste at all.

Any ideas of good online shops for this sort of thing??

Just going to throw Quiz into the ring

She should check with last year's dress code. Different unis seem to have different levels of formality. I think some Oxbridge dos can be more prom style, but I know DDs formals at Bristol were nowhere near as formal as that!

Ah it's lovely!

Have you considered hiring a dress - much more sustainable than buying one she only wears once? You can order several to try then just hire one of them...

I have recently discovered Depop - completely addicted!

Some great suggestions here - would also suggest have a look at brandalley who do lots of ranges at much cheaper prices including Reiss. We go to a lot of formal events and have bought quite a few from there. Also quiz and previously mentioned are good.

Another suggestion for guidance is to look at the uni/student union Facebook page etc for photos from last year - will give a good guide of what they normally go for. Hope she has a fab time!

Suggest that she looks at last years ball pics if she’s worried she’s going to not fit in. They’ll be on the Union website I expect. There’ll be all kinds of styles.

I hope she has a brilliant time, it sounds like she deserves it!
