Christmas Wedding - plus size

My BIL is getting married a few days before xmas - big wedding, DH and DD2 are in the wedding party and the rest of us are easy to dress .... except me! I can't remember the last time I wore a dress and I live in soft skinny jeans and jumpers at the moment. I'm about 5ft7 with blonde hair and I think I'm a size 20 (up a bit at the moment!) but the size 20 monsoon I bought was too tight across the bust so tried a 22 and it fitted across the bust but was too big around the waist.... but I have a big tummy, biggish hips and a flattish bum. I'm also at the end (I hope!) of breastfeeding my toddler so boobs have taken a dive southward and I have no good bras to give a good shape and no idea where to get one (after many years of going for comfort!). I'm not great in heels but I'll have to wear some for this event. Sounds delightful I know! Usually my style is a bit more funky or glam than glittery and I love the pleated skirts that are around at the moment but I feel I can't wear a skirt and top. (sorry this is long but it's actually helping me work it out myself!!) I think I've exhausted Monsoon and loved these dresses but one was too big/small across bust and waist and the wrap around dress went way too low it wasn't decent..... anyone got any suggestions? I have several hundred pounds worth of dresses in my room that are about to go back because none of them are right! budget is up to £200 but would prefer to keep around £100 if pos (just for dress - shoes extra).... would be so grateful for some pointers! Oh also, want to cover my arms at least 3/4 length and all of this has to be done online because I live way out where there are no good shops!

would you wear something like this OP? or this?

goose1964 · 21/11/2019 17:18

How about this? www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/laurie-jersey-dress-beetroot-multi/sty-j0514-pur?cat=C1_S2_G4&pid=J0514-J0514-G_00000001826

You're a similar size to me before I lost weigh and would have worn this

sleepismysuperpower1 · 21/11/2019 17:23

oh, and if you are looking for new bras, have a look at bravissimo. you can order online after having fit yourself (they have a fitting guide on their website)

dramalamma · 21/11/2019 22:13

Thank you both - @sleepismynewsuperpower - that's nice but I think it would be really short on me. I tend to go a bit longer. I'd totally forgotten about bravissimo! Had some great bras from there pre kids so will have a browse - thanks.
@goose1964 - that's gorgeous and totally something id wear but I'm being told boden isn't dressy enough 😡 trouble is the rest of the family have quite a dressy style already and it's not really me - I'm more smart and (hopefully!!) stylish when I make the effort! but they're a bit more dazzly so anything I wear is going to seem a bit dowdy. I hate dressing for weddings! Why can't they just elope like I did! (half joking!)

Do you want/have to wear a dress?
What about a really lovely pair of trousers with a top or jacket, maybe on the longer side, but slightly fitted?
Or a jumpsuit and jacket or smart wrap?
Shibumi have some gorgeous silk jackets that might fill the bill.

Have a look at JD Williams, in particular Joanna Hope or Nightingales. I just posted these pics on another thread by a lad who was going to a posh Xmas do.
Someone else on that thread posted a link to a lovely longish navy dress by Scarlett & Jo too.
