old soap bars gone hard

i love soaps, and usually have a few on the go. I got a gorgeous limeflower one from TKmaxx that was a massive bar, and im barely halfway though it, although its been on the go for ages. Its gone quite hard, and doesnt lather up nearly as well. It still smells nice, but it doesnt feel as nice to use. What could have caused this, and does it mean it needs to be thrown out and replaced with a lovely new one, or is that wasteful and shameful and I need to see it through?

I share your love of soap op. Good quality soaps will last longer if you keep them dry and they do harden. Maybe use it as a hand soap and try another brand if you like lather then ingredients such as coconut oil in a soap with give a nice lather.

Also op how often do you use that soap. I am on a pack of nesti Dante philosophy and get through a bar probably every 2 weeks so I don’t think they get a chance to harden much in a steamy bathroom.

I use those shower scrubber/body pouffe/scrunchie things with my bar soap. (Quite soft ones.) They scrub a bit at the bar, meaning even older, harder bars lather up quite well.

Quite soft scrunchie things, I mean, not soft soap.

I'm old. We used to pack last bits of soap together to make a new bar.
