is it just me or does anyone else have a real dilema when chosing clothes. Some shops are a definate no no .... too young, others ok with a mix of styles, but I just don't feel i'm ready to go down the crimplene suit route yet.....???

Next frustrates me so much - every time I go in I say to dds/dp remind me not to come inhere again it's crap, and then I go back a month later thinking, surely it can't still be crap, and it is. Even on the very rare occasions that I see something I like (a lovely purple cotton top last season) it doesn't fit.

I'm 37. Today I'm wearing Gap bootcut jeans and a Monsoon camisole top.

I usually shop at -
M & S ltd Collection, Gap, House of Fraser or Debenhams for Oasis (dresses), Warehouse (dresses), Coppernob (trousers)and the occasional bit from Red Herring.

I occasionally shop at Monsoon (athough find most things don't fit), Boden (skirts only) or a little independent boutiquey place near me. Shoes from Schuh or Clarks, Boots from Clarks or Principles.

The local Scope shop's sale rail

I kid you not

SmileysPeeples · 20/08/2007 17:16

Never Next. I talways look, onkly to be disappointemnted. To me Next seems more Mumsy than M&S sometimes.

Oh I tell a lie, i did buy a white crochet bikini from Next. I take it all back.

I'm 37 and today wearing trousers from Tesco, smock top from Lipsy (House of Fraseer) shoes from New look.

oxocube · 20/08/2007 17:17

Primark, Matalan, Second hand shops mostly

twojags · 20/08/2007 17:22

Am 41 and am wearing
Red flippy skirt with pockets from Wallis
Black T shirt from MK One
Black strappy wedges from Dolcis

Have to admit have been to work today though.
I will shop just about anywhere as things tend to call to me from across the rails

At lunchtime I bought a skirt and a vest top from Top Shop (should I be embarassed at my age?)

SmileysPeeples · 20/08/2007 17:26

Blimey all this talk of camisole tops and flippy skirys is making me cold.

Go and put a cradi on at once!!! It's cold.

I have on trousers, long sleeved top and a cardi!

DumbledoresGirl · 20/08/2007 17:38

Aged 42
Don't often buy new clothes but when I do, it is almost invariably from M&S, Per Una.

Oh dear, how middle aged!

handlemecarefully · 20/08/2007 17:40

Next, Boden, Gap, Fat face, Principles, M&S

Mercy · 20/08/2007 17:53

I can't even remember the last time I bought any clothes tbh.

Am 44 next month and today I'm wearing

Clarks children's trainers
Dorothy Perkins jeans
M&S cotton polo neck
M&S t-shirt

I am size 6/8 petite and it's really hard buying clothes that fit and which are suitable for my age/lifestyle/taste. I know far more shops do small sizes now - but I'm too old for most of them!

I think Gap is my sort of style really (but sometimes hte quality isn't what it was)

thegirlwithnoname · 20/08/2007 17:57

I am 35, and today I am wearing
Matching undies by M and S £35! eek
Straight Brown Trousers by Dotty P (last yrs sale £5)
Smock Top by Tesco again a £5.
And Green round toe (Mary-Janeish) high heels from New Look. £20

Idreamofdaleks · 20/08/2007 18:55

I am wearing layers today because I was cold:
Boden sassy jeans, dark wash
Fat Face dress & necklace
H&M tshirt
Kew tie cardigan
Haviianas in bronze and dark purple nail varnish

Managed not to wear socks!

This was a non-work day. Do you need stuff for work or just for home?

hecciesmum · 20/08/2007 19:13

I'm nearly 36 and on maternity leave - have a wardrobe full of stuff I don't wear now and probably won't get into again. Today am in jeans a new look t shirt and an agnes b cardigan from years ago when I had more money

I bought this last week - aiming for a flippy skirt and flip flops kinda look, but the weather is shite. Much nicer in RL than online

Hurlyburly · 20/08/2007 21:56

I'm 40 and today I'm wearing

Underwear from Bravissimo
Skirt from Hobbs
Top from Jigsaw
Boden cardy

turquoise · 20/08/2007 22:04

I clearly have absolutely no style, as have bits and pieces from just about everywhere, but probably mainly:

Monsoon (but haven't liked anything much this year)
M&S
Kew
Joe Brown
Gap
New Look
Boden
Great Plains
Debenhams

Am dying to have a posh party to go to, as we have just had Coast open up here.
Am 43

Nightynight · 20/08/2007 22:25

France - Patrice Breal for work clothes
C&A yessica is useful for a lot of things.

Clary · 20/08/2007 23:25

I love this thread.

So interesting what you are all wearing (picturing you all very stylish).

Now btw I am wearing Race for Life T-shirt and M&S cropped running leggings but then have been running/cleaning bathrpoom tonight.

We used to have a Gap here but it closed. Really miss it.

H/ever new shopping centre set to have H&M and Monsoon

Where's the best place to buy a nice pair of jeans? Might start new thread actually.

themoon66 · 20/08/2007 23:28

Gap
M&S
Oasis
Monsoon
TKMaxx (love the rummaging)
Long Tall Sally
Bravissimo for underwear and bikinis
Office for shoes

fortyplus · 21/08/2007 00:07

I'm 46... Not very stylish but have developed an idea of what suits me!

Sometimes find things in M&S Per Una range.

Occasionally Boden, Rohan trousers. Have got a couple of t-shirts from Next but don't like most of their stuff.

Have found some excellent items in TK Maxx (it's not all Tommy Hifiger & Lonsdale in there - I wouldn't be seen dead in that!)Barbour & Chatham casual tops, Musto jacket, lovely pair of Linen trosers by Sticky Fingers. Today I picked up a very dark purple thin, fine merino wool jumper by John Smedley for £29.99 instead of £95.

Saw a wool/silk mix cardi I liked in Zara last week.

My big problem is SHOES! I've got size 8 feet and it's a nighmare! Where do you buy flattering shoes for feet the size of boats?

Xanthipi · 21/08/2007 00:11

36 and lots of Topshop I'm afraid.

just about still get away with it.

Also little pieces, on sale, from better places. Once bought something massively reduced from Chloe. But usually can't afford that sort of thing unless it's something I will wear to death, and then I do shell out, because I really do wear things to death.

littleboo · 21/08/2007 08:47

Clary I agree, its really interesting trying to picture people and what they wear kind of helps.

Everyone does seem really stylish and not any crimpelene in sight

cookiesandcream · 21/08/2007 09:03

m and s per una - although going off this now
oasis
next
lakeland - believe it or not!
fatface
debenhams - really like pineapple range

I'm really lucky as although I'm 37 this year I probably look about 25 so don't feel the pressure to dress my age iykwim.

I struggle with shoes too and really need new ones but hate shoe shopping and since pg struggle to get anything to fit!
