Can you wear black to a wedding (evening reception)

I have a wedding at the weekend. Really struggling to find anything nice to wear. I have a black lace midi dress in my wardrobe but there seems to be mixed opinions as to whether this is acceptable for a wedding reception. Any thoughts wise mumsnetters?

Absolutely.

Unless you're planning on accessorising it with a heavy black veil and occasional sobs of "it should have been me!" then it's fine.

I've worn black as a day guest to a summer wedding. I looked nice. My rule is no jeans or wedding dresses but that's about it.

Thank goodness! I was really struggling to find anything in the shops today, they are full of sequins and shiny Christmas things. I tried on this https://www.phase-eight.com/product/alba-belted-dress-207771368.html#navAjax=true&cgid=dresses&sz=60&start=0&prefn1=color&prefv1=Green&pid=207771368&pos=14 which was lovely but more day guest and more than I can really afford at the moment.

I’m at a wedding next month and I’m planning to wear a black dress . I wondered if it was a no no aswell but I’m wearing it anyway Grin

bluejelly · 21/11/2019 19:25

Yes. Can you wear bright tights/accessories?

DreamOnReggie · 22/11/2019 20:25

I wouldn't either. Although I know that these days, etiquette is often ignored.

Black dress is fine for a wedding, I would team with blush accessories for a lighter look.
