Help me find comfortable trousers that are not jeans but are casual.

First of all I will admit I need to lose weight. I am a size 16/18, 5'6" and age 57.

I live in the countryside and am retired. My trousers need to be hardwearing and comfortable. Increasingly I am finding jeans very irritating. They don't ever fit right and my newest ones (from Joules) lose their shape really quickly. I don't want tight jeggings either.

So what do I look for? I tend to wear fine knit oversize jumpers so loose baggy trousers don't work either. I think I want slim cut trousers but with an elastic/comfortable waist.

Am I missing something? Can anyone point me in the right direction? I don't need to be cutting edge but at the same time I don't want to be frumpy.

For the winter, I like cord trousers - more comfortable than denim jeans
