Velvet. Do you wear it? It’s everywhere at the minute!

I know at christmas velvet always comes around, but there seems to be so much of it this year.
And I’ve yet to see a piece that looks good on the models, let alone is mere mortals.
Has anyone tried some yet?

Not this year but I have a blue (dark but too light to be navy) and a tunic with a dye like a stormy night and mediaeval style sleeves. They're both from Next, not the same year, and still look brand new and have never looked dated.

I do. A gold velvet blazer, a black velvet pencil skirt. Both easy to dress up or down and I love them with sequins around this time of year.

Both pieces date from the 50s and the quality and attention to detail is stunning.

Yes I have some vintage velvet too, but I only wear them very very occasionally as velvet is impossible to wash and virtually impossible to clean at all really

I don't like the shiny stuff that's on the high street at the moment but I love old school velvet.

dontgobaconmyheart · 17/11/2019 11:35

I don't, I think it mostly looks dated or is reminiscent of children's clothing I wore at xmas as a child. It does seem to pop up every year for the last few years though.

I think the velvet wrap dresses you see everywhere can look quite nice but other than that nothing appeals- and I can't imagine I'd buy one as I'd probably wear it once at a christmas do and that's that!

I love it but it is mostly bastard Viscose which makes me sweat. I have had it in the past (including a lovely long bright blue Dotty P dress).

I am wearing quite a bit of velvet this year.
Jigsaw velvet culottes from the summer sale in dusky pink and plum.
Black velvet culottes and jogger style trousers from Monsoon which are very easy to wear. I wear them with Cashmere sweaters like the Clara from Wrap and it's an easy comfy uniform with boots .

I have a grey velvet wrap dress that I got in New look last year, that is one of the most complimented things I own, and I am a curvy size 12, so not model thin.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 17/11/2019 12:03

I've just made a lovely dress in teal velour (not quite velvet technically, but still counts I reckon). It's a cotton mix, so amazingly soft and cosy, and the style suits me so I'm happy. (It's a Cashmerette Pembroke for anyone interested).

Wear velvet jeans quite a bit and have a lovely velvet blazer (though I don't wear them together)

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 17/11/2019 12:06

I love wearing velvet at this time of year and like PPs it's often complimented by others so I assume can't look too dreadful. I have a midnight blue wrap tunic and a black cowl neck, both very classic rather than current, both going strong after several years.

Dontdribble

I would love to see a pic of this - sounds right up my street . A mod pic would be great but even on the hanger ?
Been toying with starting to sew again .

I have a beautiful silver velvet bag it’s lush!
