That is all.
They’re a hobby when I’ve free time, my armour when I’m feeling low and just all round fun too.
Ebay and charity shops are my favoured hunting grounds as I love a good rag pick but clothes shopping on the high st I also enjoy.
Just had to share. 😊

I love clothes, this is a happy thread for me Smile

I do feel as though I'm a bit odd though as I don't "follow fashion" for want of a better phrase and actually have a very "narrow" wardrobe myself, I only like to wear certain types of clothing (eg 1960s/1950s plain A line dresses/skirts, I rarely wear patterns (stripes/polka dots can be OK) or below the knee things, and definitely no trousers. So I have a very limited wardrobe but I know what I like and it makes it even more enjoyable when I find something.

99% of my wardrobe is vintage. I actually can't remember the last time I bought something in a shop (apart from tights!)

My love of clothes is nothing however compared to my love of vintage nightwear. Definitely not plain here though, and the more flammable frilly and flouncy the better I find it so enjoyable looking at things even if I can't afford to buy them. Looking at vintage nightwear on eBay is actually one of my favourite things to do Blush

Even my huge love of vintage nightwear is however eclipsed by DH's love of shoes. I've never met a man like him (although he assures me, from all the groups he is in on SM, they exist).

He keeps all his shoes in the original boxes and I have a cunning plan, for Christmas I am going to take a photo of each pair and put it on the outside of the box so he can see them at a glance. I think he will like it, this is a man who likes shoes so much he would love to buy two pairs of everything, his motto is "one to wear, and one to stare" HmmSmile

My love is scarfs I just adore scarfs. And handbags. I remember going to NYC And saving for months to buy a designer bag and I brought a beautiful tan Micheal Kors one. I've just got a promotion and brought a Louis Vuttion one. I worked so had to get there. I even went on a game show to try and win money to get it 😂 bloody love it

RowenaMud · 21/11/2019 19:07

I was in a shop today and the rail was full of clothes I liked. I realised I was smiling delightedly and happily as I walked slowly along the rail, looking at them. I stopped as I felt self conscious but it’s something I do every so often. I think this thread would have understood 😀

RowenaMud · 21/11/2019 19:08

KateFoster what game show and how did you get on???

ElspethFlashman · 21/11/2019 19:40

I truly envy you all your success in charity shops. The ones in my town are terrible. All full of stuff from cheap chains, and are well used even before they go to the shop. I'm not going to buy someone's raggedy old Primark cardigan!

It also seems that charity shops aren't great for the larger sizes. I'm a 14-16 and by God is it a matronly selection.

I know someone though who is a size 6 and v glam and buys exclusively from the exact same charity shops and always finds all the gems. Or maybe things just look better on her!

Peachypips78 · 21/11/2019 19:47

I'm a 14-16 and I have loads of success- it's about finding the right ones and going in constantly, which has become a massive addiction problem!!

KateFoster · 21/11/2019 20:03

@RowenaMud the chase, just did an online application then an audition. They actually emailed me today there's a new show called beat the chasers that they're looking for applicants for

RowenaMud · 21/11/2019 20:33

I like The Chase!

Do you get to meet the chasers? What are they like?

How did you decide what to wear on the show? I imagine they say no slogans etc but any other rules?

KateFoster · 21/11/2019 20:57

@RowenaMud didn't meet them and didn't really get to speak but I had Jenny and she was so so lovely! They make you take 5 outfits it's such a pain. I just wore a casual dress and converse 😂

Runneryogi · 21/11/2019 21:20

@ElspethFlashman have you looked at Oxfam Online? Basically online charity shopping and maybe a bigger selection than you usually have access to?

Runneryogi · 21/11/2019 21:22

I love clothes and I find the history of fashion fascinating. My favourite thing is to go to fashion exhibitions like the Dior or McQueen exhibitions at the v&a.

OneOfTheGrundys · 21/11/2019 22:03

What is this witchcraft of Oxfam Online??? Yikes. Another addiction coming on I feel...

I love this thread. I feel enabled 😂 Like op I don’t smoke or drink. I also cut my own hair and do my own nails, so no outgoings there. Shopping is pretty much my only vice. I absolutely love clothes, to look at as well as wear. I definitely have items that I’ve bought just to admire. Dh thinks I have a problem.

Miseryisabutterfly · 22/11/2019 10:26

I also love dressing my children 😂 My dream job would be to work as a stylist with children’s clothes.

CatInTheDaytime · 22/11/2019 11:05

:o I loved dressing my babies, but by about 2-3 they both refused my lovingly styled outfits and insisted on choosing their own. :( But preteen DD is now quite into clothes and I love shopping with her (and am even influenced by her choices sometimes)

XingMing · 22/11/2019 14:28

I loved dressing my DS, and finding him great items for next to nothing in TK Maxx and odd little shops. Now he's grown up, he gets his own delight from clothes and shoes, although he doesn't wear his peacock items every day for work.

RowenaMud · 22/11/2019 19:53

I loved shopping for my children when they were babies and toddlers too. I spent so much time buying online, creating little outfits, coordinating them. By age 4, DC1 had had enough. 😀

OneOfTheGrundys · 22/11/2019 19:53

‘Peacock items’ - love it!
I often found, by accident, I’d dressed me and my DSs similarly. Stripy tops mostly! Totally unintentional.

Dd (4) definitely gets to express herself (as can be seen 😂) but thankfully likes my choices too!

Gosh I love clothes.
DelphiniumBlue · 22/11/2019 20:34

I really love clothes, but am finding it increasingly difficult to find fabrics that both feel and look good.
I need a day in Westfield Stratford recently , with money to burn, and could not find a single thing I wanted to buy.
I have a hankering at the moment for printed silk and velvet, or soft jersey. If anyone has come across anything like that, could you flag it up? Tops, jackets, dresses, anything really. Just not polyester.

OneOfTheGrundys · 22/11/2019 21:51

Yes, a lot of crappy fabrics. Found a lovely St Michael velvet blazer in charity shop the other day and the quality was great. It was thick, soft and well tailored. Too small for me so I hope someone snapped it up.
Try ebay perhaps delphinium? Type in your exact requirements and see what pops up...

Hello, my peeps.

Today I am dressed head to toe 2nd hand. Great quality fabrics, some great brands (but no logos showing). Jewellery & shoes that fit my look absolutely, and are comfortable and season-appropriate.

Our (primary) school is in a wealthy area, and we have 3 known blogger/influencers in the normal pickup crowd. Two of them have complimented me on my outfit today. Which is nice. But I do it for me, and like lots on this thread, to prove you can be stylish, fun, and unique (with a touch of trend) for very little money.

I may not be saving the planet, but my opportunities for having fun at this stage of my life (family responsibilities) are limited, and clothes shopping/curating is a great way to express myself and rescue unwanted clothes from landfill!

CakeInMyFace · 23/11/2019 08:01

I have found my people at last! I love shopping, I love the hunt for something, planning outfits and trying on clothes endlessly. I do wonder sometimes if its healthy, but like someone up thread said I feel it unleashes my creative side. I'm no good at art or anything like that, but I get excited about clothes. Smile

Lamentations · 23/11/2019 08:20

Have any of you read this? It's full of interviews with women about their clothes and photographs of their collections. Brilliant book to read but also just flick back through.

Gosh I love clothes.
ISawyouinTescoyesterday · 23/11/2019 08:22

Me too. I just wish I had the money to go on a shopping spree. Sadly though, other things have been priority lately.
