Headwear crisis

I'm asking for a friend he's not very tech savvy . He needs some headwear that is suitable for a particular set of circumstances. As he is a migrant, he's concerned that he's likely to need to travel back to his place of origin fairly soon, what with new laws being introduced and all that. As things would have it, this will probably coincide with the birth of his first-born (although he's fairly sure the baby isn't his anyway, but that's a whole other story).
Anyway, he needs something practical for travelling but that will also look good for the usual load of visitors that turn up after the birth.
He was going to go with the classic cloth on head held on by a plaited band but is worried he'd have to put up with being called "teatowel head" for ever afterwards. He's also thought about the simple round hat but although he's a fairly modest man, he does worry that this might lead to him being confused with the dregs of society shepherds.
Would he be unreasonable to stay bare headed? He is going a bit grey and has a small bald spot but hopes this might not be noticed in the general rush of things. Photo attached so you can decide what would suit him best.

That's creepy as fuck.

EducatingArti · 15/11/2019 13:56

He will look a bit better when he has a face though!

You really do need to put ‘ lighthearted’ on everything these days Grin

TrashPanda · 15/11/2019 13:57

Deerstalker definitely! Grin

sammybins · 15/11/2019 14:00

a nice balaclava...? :grin

ari11 · 15/11/2019 14:12

What about this........lovely and warm!🤣

picklemepopcorn · 15/11/2019 14:15

What about a skull cap? Just to keep the bald bit warm? Nights can be quite chilly on the road.

EducatingArti · 15/11/2019 14:15

That could work ari11. Do you think grey is his colour?

PS, don't mention his hands. He knows they are massive and he is a bit self conscious about it!

PS, i like the way you've saved his dignity by anonymising his face.

picklemepopcorn · 15/11/2019 14:17

It's not his hands, by the way, he just needs to choose longer sleeves next time!

EducatingArti · 15/11/2019 14:17

Yeah, he'd hate for anyone to identify him!

BeatriceTheBeast · 15/11/2019 14:25

Um...what IS that? Did you make it? It is decidedly creepy! Feel like I'm missing a in-joke here...

EducatingArti · 15/11/2019 14:29

Too much of a teatowel head?

Oooooooh! Ok, now I get it! Bit slow on the uptake today.

Are you making the whole nativity scene? Well done you. Yes, he will look less creepy fab when he has a face Halloween Smile.

EducatingArti · 15/11/2019 14:38

I'm making them for my toddler Sunday school group so that they can "play act" the story. They really like 'small world' type play so letting them do that with the Nativity story. I've been struggling to get J's head wear right and hoped you lot could help.
A deerstalker might be beyond my crafting skills though!

The stripy teatowel does make him look like a wet flannel shepherd, arti.

Perhaps a designer teatowel in another colour. No risk of being confused with the shepherd's.

picklemepopcorn · 15/11/2019 16:59

He's a prosperous carpenter you know. I think he'd have a plain white linen. That Mary will have to wash and press with great irritation.

EducatingArti · 15/11/2019 17:26

He's given up on the white linen because Mary says if he thinks she's going to wash and press that at 37 weeks pregnant while on a long road trip he's got another think coming it isn't really practical for a long journey. He's wondering about this practical number. The band could be painted a different colour if needed.

I like the red topped one . It is a nice splash of colour.
Has he pre booked accommodation?

picklemepopcorn · 15/11/2019 17:50

Tell your friend I like that one. And YY, as Anne says ^^, it's worth booking ahead. Busy time of year and all that.

KnitFastDieWarm · 15/11/2019 17:53

Has he pre booked accommodation? Grin
I like the red, it’s a cut above the tea towel but not OTT...unlike that flashy lot who will probably turn up after the birth with useless ostentatious gifts. I mean what’s wrong with a nice cuddly toy? Perhaps a lamb?

EducatingArti · 15/11/2019 18:10

I dunno about pre booking. Organisation isn't really his strength. He's rather a dreamer to be honest. Just don't get me started on the dream contents.

OP posts:
picklemepopcorn · 15/11/2019 18:17

I think he's from a long line of dreamers, isn't he? 'Blood will out' and all that.

AnneKipanki · 15/11/2019 19:54

[santa] , something like that might be fine . He will blend in with the crowds . Great for sleigh rides .
Fantastic for long distance travels.
