So I’ve coloured my hair this morning using just a semi permanent in Light Brown (nice n easy 24 wash). My hair was a light warm brown to begin with. It’s turned it an unsavoury darkish reddish colour, I really don’t like it. I know it’ll fade in time but I haven’t the patience to wait & knowing my luck, because I don’t like it, it’s won’t fade for ages!

If I wash it later with some head & shoulders & get another semi permanent to possibly go over it tomorrow with, would I better getting a dark ash blonde or a light ash brown? I don’t want to go darker, just want an ash base colour to get rid of the red tones. I could do a vitamin c wash but it will really dry my hair out. What’s the best ash based semi?

Hi I find most of the brown at home dyes come out really dark. The good news is that it's a semi permanent so a few washes will lift the red tones a lot. I'd definitely advise dark ash blonde which is essentially light brown without the red undertones.
You can also buy toners to neutralise any red brassy tones. Look for blue toning shampoo for brunettes.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Smiley, I’ve washed it a couple of times and it looks marginally better. I’ve got a dark ash blonde semi so I will decide tomorrow if I need to do it or perhaps just wash it a couple of more times. I wish I hadn’t of dyed it in the first place, I don’t know why I picked up light brown, I usually go for the dark ash blonde as my hair is quite warm anyway, now it looks darker through the lengths and lighter towards the roots! And it’s dry as it is, will need to condition the hell out of it after this!
