men's sizing help for teen boy

DS1 is 14, he's about 5ft6, fairly slim but broad shoulders.
I'm trying to get him a coat, his specifications lead to menswear rather than teens. (He has ASd and sensory issues)

Any ideas on whether XS or S? I've Seen some possible coat matches on Next.

I think he will need to try them on, or order both and send one back.

My DH has very broad shoulders and usually has to up a size (or two), otherwise the sleeves are too short.

Pull and Bear (which the young lads round here seem to love) stock XS and XXS sizes in their menswear so you might spot something suitable there (have a look online)

ConFusion360 It's very much the shoulders that has me dithering. Trying on would be the most sensible but he's awful in shops.

LifeInAHamsterWheel I ordered a coat from Pull & Bear as they had one that met requirements and a lot cheaper than the Next equivalent. Gone for a small, he's still growing so it can always be put away for a bit/for DS2. He's not bothered by appearance at all but I do worry he's enough of a target so thanks for the tip.

Next online used to have teen sizes up to 16 which was very useful to me in a similar situation. Other than that I would go xs.

It so varies with the brand. Can you order them online to try on at home?

Small. DS is 10 and can fit into men's XS, he's smaller than your boy.

I have a 13 year old about the same height with broad shoulders and he wears a men's size small

Next men's sizing seems to come up small. Definitely go small rather than xs. My 15 year old is also slim with broad shoulders and is either a small or medium in Next
