What type of hat with this coat?

I bought this coat recently and it's lovely and warm, very swishy, good for sweeping around corners in etc. But as it doesn't have a hood, I'm looking at getting a hat to go with it for when it's wet (I hate umbrellas and refuse to carry them). What kind of hat do people think would work? I was eyeing up a sort of Russian-style faux fur one, but I don't want to look as if I'm doing some kind of War and Peace cos-play. But I do think the coat calls for something a bit more glam than a woolly beanie...

A faux fur one would be of no use in the rain either.

A Panama or similar wide brim hat would work well.

I wear a cloche hat which works OK. Obviously not going to be full on rain protection but enough for the walk to work from the tube in drizzle. It folds up in my bag too which is a big bonus.

Where is that coat from?

A normal hat like this would work - just find one with a Pom Pom similar to the cuffs https://www.next.co.uk/GL3414s2?dp=a&gclid=CjwKCAiA8K7uBRBBEiwACOm4d2LZQkFAYvl9BXHU1Jhy4145gVER7OTirk--Z5Gb5vYB6qyGZAnRhoCkwkQAvDD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I have the same problem OP and am tempted by this M&S one but even though it's had some good reviews I'm not convinced!

I also like this from Accessorize

I love this so much! I bet you look amazing.

If you don't need fully waterproof, which I'm guessing you don't as that coat doesn't look waterproof itself, then I don't see why not fur... it may look a bit Romanovesque, but meh, why not. You sound like you have a fabulous penchant for the dramatic, just go with it Halloween Grin.

VanGoghsDog I bought it online because I was struggling to find anything in the shops in that style. It's all oversized blazers and teddy coats, both of which are ghastly on me. It's by De La Creme, not that I'd heard of that brand before but I went on the fact that it was largely wool.

Beatrice it isn't especially waterproof but it is wool, so it keeps the rain out for a fair while. I'm not sure I look especially glamorous in it, being short, fat and middle-aged, but I gave up caring about that sort of thing after I hit 40. I do like the cloche suggestion and could also check out some trilby type things.

I would go for something like this charcoal grey fedora from M & Co

This cloche would look great.

Also this is a really good site for hats. Have had a couple of good ones from here.

Cos has these kind of puffa down hoods with a dickey where you can layer it inside a hood-less coat. They look really cool, very of the moment.

I feel like the designer in Zoolander "so hot right now" 🤣

Mint velvet and Bruar options. Joules do a lovely one with a feather in too!

Hat with a brim or one of the more structured pull on beanie types with seams and sometimes an appliqué.

Thanks all - I'm feeling more clochey than brimmed, so I think I'll venture into town tomorrow and do some trying on. There is a specialist hat shop just down the road from where I work and they have some similar things to what you have all kindly suggested. I can't promise I won't give in to the temptation to dress as a Cossack but I do like the idea of something more understated too!
