Why does my hair look awful in photos?

I look in the mirror and think my hair looks nice, then someone goes and takes a photo and it look shit!

Hair is just past my shoulders. Cut and coloured regularly. Colour is a few tones of mid/dark brown and I’m very happy with it. Use decent shampoo, conditioner and products.

Whether it’s tied up or loose, in photos it looks really flat and lifeless.

Help! How can I make it look better in photos?

Sounds like it's the colour, which isn't reflecting, what about some low lights or something?

I’m not sure it is the colour. I’ll try and attach a picture. The picture I’ve taken makes it look ok from the back. It’s the top that seems to be a problem!

It looks ok. Healthy, good colour. Depending on the light cameras don't always reflect the real colour of hair, and dye often look unnatural.
