Would you wear this to a winter wedding?

I'd be grateful for opinions, I guess my concern is that it's not 'dressy' enough. For reference, it's a church wedding followed by the reception in a barn type of building later this month.

Sorry op, I don't think I would wear it to a wedding, it seems quite casual to me.

onemorecakeplease · 11/11/2019 23:21

I think maybe it all hinges on the shoes....

I wouldn't wear that style myself but it could work if you are tall and slim!

Collision · 11/11/2019 23:23

I actually think it’s fab and you could wear it for a wedding.

Smart coat for church and perfect for dancing.
Red shoes would look good.

Trews2019 · 11/11/2019 23:30

The top bit and pattern is nice but the skirt and length make it look really frumpy.

DrWAnker · 11/11/2019 23:37

I was on the fence but looking properly I think not.
It's a bit too shapeless to wear the type of jacket it would need to smarten it up and the length is awkward.
It would be very comfortable though and I do like it, just not wedding suitable for me.

Rivergreen · 11/11/2019 23:43

It's the sort of dress that can look as casual as the toast styling if you have that body shape and wear those shoes. But if it's more fitted on you and is flattering and you pair with some heels and a clutch and the right jewellery then yep, I think it would look fab at a wedding.

I have a similar-ish Boden dress, bright pattern, sleeves, long midi length. On the website it looks a frumpy mess (and not in the cool toast styled to be frumpy way). I picked it up in John Lewis in desperation and, even if I do say so myself, it looks fab on me and definitely suitable for the event I bought it for.

BackforGood · 11/11/2019 23:48

No. It looks like a 1970s nightie.
If they can't even get it to look good on a model, it seems ulikely it is going to be lovely on a mere mortal.

AlexaAmbidextra · 11/11/2019 23:49

Hideous. And as for the shoes and socks............

pickleface · 11/11/2019 23:52

I really love it but I'm not sure about for a wedding...

HotGingerPudding2 · 12/11/2019 00:08

That is truly ugly

LimeRedBanana · 12/11/2019 00:10

No.

MoltonSilver · 12/11/2019 00:15

Its not impossible, but it would difficult to make it look suitable. Unless you already own it I think you should keep looking.

Alsohuman · 12/11/2019 01:05

It would look great with burgundy knee length boots with a block heel. The thing I’d struggle with is what to wear over it.

managedmis · 12/11/2019 01:09

Nope

BeThere · 12/11/2019 01:12

Oh god, no sorry. I wouldn't wear it outside the door. For that money, you could get so much nicer.

HeddaGarbled · 12/11/2019 01:22

To be honest, anyone who holds a reception in a barn in November should expect their guests to turn up in Uggs and slankets, so I think you should wear whatever will be warm and comfortable.

BigBairyHollocks · 12/11/2019 01:34

Ugliest dress ever.Do not buy it.

Bluerussian · 12/11/2019 01:42

I think it's quite ugly actually. No offence. The pattern dazzles the eyes, not in a pleasant way.

Monty27 · 12/11/2019 01:45

I wouldn't. A lunch in a country pub I would.

DramaAlpaca · 12/11/2019 01:45

I think, in the nicest possible way, you do need to go dressier. That fabric is too light for a winter wedding.

1forAll74 · 12/11/2019 02:11

I wouldn't wear it for anything, never mind a wedding. The design makes the dress more awful,as well as the dress being oldie looking.

In my sewing class at school,in the 1950 era, I made a cotton, three tiered skirt, like the bottom part of that dress,it had little tiny flowers on it though, and I wore it with a tight belt, around my then 22ins waist. so it wasn't shapeless looking like this dress.

thedevilinablackdress · 12/11/2019 07:36

I love it and think it will be excellent. Definitely dressy enough with the right boots/shoes and jewellery.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 12/11/2019 07:38

No, it's an odd shape and not dressy enough

homemadecommunistrussia · 12/11/2019 07:39

It's a really lovely dress, but I think it's a bit too casual for a wedding.

Timetobegood · 12/11/2019 07:46

I think it’s lovely. That type of style is on trend at the moment so I think it could be fine depending on shoes and accessories. I recently ordered a similar style online but it didn’t suit me at all but I’m in my 50s and I think you need to be younger and cooler to make it work eg like the Zara dress.
