Would you wear this to a winter wedding?

I'd be grateful for opinions, I guess my concern is that it's not 'dressy' enough. For reference, it's a church wedding followed by the reception in a barn type of building later this month.

Sorry OP but that dress is truly horrible.

Cuddling57 · 12/11/2019 07:52

I'm sorry but no definitely not for a wedding. Have you seen anything else you like?

Cuddling57 · 12/11/2019 07:54

What accessories and shoes are you going to wear with it?

Itsjustmee · 12/11/2019 07:56

God it’s vile ,it looks like one of those old fashioned lampshades
Or one of those pop up Christmas trees but without the decorations

PurpleDaisies · 12/11/2019 07:58

No, and I wouldn’t spend £170 on it in general. Too casual for a wedding.

afternoonspray · 12/11/2019 07:59

I would. I'd go for a really 70s boho look and wear it with heeled tan knee boots and a sheepskin jerkin or bike jacket. I think it's lovely. (But I adore 70s style midi dresses) Perfect for a barn wedding.

MaidenMotherCrone · 12/11/2019 08:11

£170 for a cotton dress made in China Shock.

I wouldn't wear it because I'm sure I could find something more flattering and attractive with that budget.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/11/2019 08:14

I don't see any reason why not. It reminds me of 1970s Chelsea Girl. I went to a wedding where a couple wore vintage 1920s clothes - they looked fab.

I'm not keen on the shoes. For a '70s look you'd need heeled boots and a big floppy felt hat.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/11/2019 08:17

Word of caution - I think people are assuming barn setting means straw bales and a fiddle band. It could still be quite fancy. But wear what you feel comfortable in.

Palavah · 12/11/2019 08:18

It's not a style that would flatter most people!

It's all in the grooming and the styling - hair done, strong lip colour, strappy block heels, smart small bag, earrings

NataliaOsipova · 12/11/2019 08:22

Could work if, as others said, you wear smart/glamorous shoes, dressy hair, make up etc. Wouldn’t suit me though - you’d need to be tall to carry it off!

ShirleyPhallus · 12/11/2019 08:25

Hideous. But I’ve never seen something from Toast that isn’t.

Rainatnight · 12/11/2019 08:28

I think it depends on the overall vibe/style of the wedding. What will other people be wearing?

I’m going to a wedding in Jan (shiver!) and am looking on it as an opportunity to go really glam with velvet, jewel colours etc, but it’s going to be a glam-ish wedding.

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 12/11/2019 08:28

I really liked it at first and thought it could work well, as others said with a nice pair of heels and a clutch, but then I saw the photos with the models and it put me right off but it's up to you OP

Atalune · 12/11/2019 08:29

That’s gorgeous.

Stacked heel long boots in tan or burgandy would look amazing. You could try a belt with it to give it some shape and structure.
Wear with a soft suede biker jacket.

It is a little casual though.

Timetobegood · 12/11/2019 08:30

Well you’d look daft in Karen Millen and stilettos so I think it’s fine.

Xiaoxiong · 12/11/2019 08:35

I don't much like the shape and pattern of the dress anyway but just the fact that it's "light and airy screen printed cotton" makes it sound completely wrong for a winter wedding.

I'd get something sumptuous and winter appropriate, like something made of velvet. Some gorgeous velvet stuff in Cos at the moment. Can you tell I have been trying stuff on in Cos and wanting alllll the velvet Grin

whatsinthebagwhatcoulditbe · 12/11/2019 09:12

It could work with the right shoes and a thin thermal layer underneath, but I wouldn't. For £170 you could get something much nicer.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/11/2019 09:17

Sorry but I think it's very casual and frumpy

LeeMiller · 12/11/2019 09:35

I think it could look gorgeous if styled in a 1970s bohemian way to up the glamour: definitely tall heeled boots and possibly a floppy felt hat. I like afternoon's suggestion of a sheepskin jerkin or biker jacket. But I think you'd need to be quite tall and slim.

Atalune · 12/11/2019 09:38

Alternatives.....

Wide leg trousers and a neat little cashmere sweater with an amazing necklace, shoes and bag. Tres French and chic.

Deadringer · 12/11/2019 09:51

I think it's too casual for a wedding, too expensive for what it is, and tbh, horrible.

funkylittleboatrace · 12/11/2019 09:57

Oh my god that is butters and why so much?.

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 12/11/2019 10:10

I wouldn't wear that anywhere tbh Confused

DogAndCatPerson · 12/11/2019 10:18

Yes, I think it’s nice. Good shoes and a tailored jacket, maybe in wine velvet would work.
