In light of the several upcoming engagements for W&K while H&M allegedly take a 6 week break!

And it's not like they'll have to share the sofa bed in the sitting room.

I think the young children are more or less excluded from Xmas day; they have nannies and eat separately from the adults.

There was a DMail article on it.

Lunde · 14/11/2019 17:22

Yes staff help if you don't mind spending very little time with your kids on Christmas day in the segregated and very Victorian Christmas at Sandringham. Where the adults eat together and the younger children have to eat in the nursery.

UrsulaPandress · 14/11/2019 17:26

Presumably if children eat in the nursery then H&M would have had to abandon Archie for all mealtimes.

Lunde · 14/11/2019 17:30

According to the article written by the former chef at Sandringham - the younger children are basically excluded from the Royal Christmas apart from the small gifts that are exchanged on Christmas Eve. Otherwise Christmas is an itinerary of adult activities

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2019 17:31

I'm sure George, Charlotte and Louis would have great fun eating in the nursery with the Phillips and Tindall girls but that's not great for the older ones. I assume now that Louise is 16 she can eat "down" but it can't be much fun for James Severn!

They get to live rent free in her Mums estate

How do you know they live rent free, Elspeth?

Dapplegrey · 14/11/2019 17:41

There was a DMail article on it.

Well it must be true then.
I’m sure the DM embroidered the chef’s article to suit their agenda.
None of us know what happens at Sandringham at Christmas except who goes to church on Christmas Day.

Lunde · 14/11/2019 17:42

I guess that James is allowed to eat with the adults as he was allowed to attend church last year.

William and Kate have stayed at their own house on the Sandringham Estate for several years now so I guess they can drop in and out of the events (and do Santa/presents in their own home). I wonder whether they even take their children to Sandringham on Christmas Day or whether they leave them with the Middletons or Nanny at Anmer Hall while they do the formal part of the day - church, child-free lunch, Queen's TV broadcast etc.

I think it would be tough for Meghan and Harry to spend Archie's first Christmas mostly apart.

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2019 17:42

That’s the only time the children join the adults- but presumably the adults join their children more often! They are not banned from the nursery.....

SunsetBoulevard3 · 14/11/2019 17:50

It would be a bit odd if some of the parents of young children were hanging around in the nursery whilst the rest of the party were downstairs doing adult things.

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2019 17:51

“ It would be a bit odd if some of the parents of young children were hanging around in the nursery whilst the rest of the party were downstairs doing adult things.”

There’s loads of unaccounted for time in that schedule. And how do we know it’s true anyway?

Dapplegrey · 14/11/2019 18:10

That’s the only time the children join the adults- but presumably the adults join their children more often! They are not banned from the nursery.....

As you say in your next post ‘ And how do we know it’s true anyway?’

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/11/2019 18:15

I don't think the Mail article is the only one that has shown a similar timetable from an ex-royal chef. It could still be a load of rubbish. The Queen always looks likes she knows and likes her great-grandchildren when we see pictures of them together. She looked besotted by Archie.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2019 18:20

The Phillips and Tindall children would be the youngest.
Even if they are in the nursery, I bet it would be made amazing for them.
The Cambridges go back to Amner for lunch. I would assume the Middletons and Pippa’s Family and possibly James and Alizée would be there...
If Harry and William still got on, it would be natural for the Sussexes to join them. Lots of very young children and party planner Carole organising the fun(!)
Such a shame about the rift.

thisenglishlife · 14/11/2019 18:21

Happy birthday to Prince Charles 🎉
He is now six years past retirement age and is yet to start the job he was born to do!

Sinittasdancers · 14/11/2019 18:33

@Lunde that article reads like something in Viz. Did Diana and Prince Philip really go down to the kitchens and hang out with the kitchen staff?? Really???

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2019 18:38

Sophie in New York

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2019 18:39

Diana was often down in the kitchens with staff, at BP, as well.
It’s quite well documented.

ElspethFlashman · 14/11/2019 18:45

Cos Anne gave both her kids houses on the estate when they became adults Dapplegrey.

No doubt they're responsible for renovations, but if they're earning £1mill a year, the odd bit of guttering won't break the bank.

Lunde · 14/11/2019 18:52

CurlyWurlyTwirly - Diana was often down in the kitchens with staff, at BP, as well. It’s quite well documented.

I think that Diana must have felt a bit isolated and lonely as Charles did little to help her integrate.

I read that, the first Christmas she spent at Sandringham, Charles didn't tell her about the Royal tradition for cheap, jokey gifts and Diana spent a fortune on pricey gifts that were the norm in her family. Apparently she bought Princess Anne an expensive, cashmere sweater and got a toilet roll cover in return.

Lunde · 14/11/2019 18:57

I wonder when Prince George will make his first appearance at the Sandringham Christmas service. I was looking back at last year's photos and saw that both of the Peter Phillip's girls attended last year when they were 7 and 6 respectively.

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/11/2019 19:01

Is the church near Sandringham very small? I haven't been to a church in over 30 years that didn't have a children"s section/Sunday school for lots of services.

StartupRepair · 14/11/2019 19:42

Not mad on Sophie's outfit but she is doing increasingly interesting work.

UrsulaPandress · 14/11/2019 19:55

Sophie does seem to get involved with lots of stuff.
