In light of the several upcoming engagements for W&K while H&M allegedly take a 6 week break!

It doesn’t actually matter what they do- the press and others will criticise them. So they should just do what they want.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/11/2019 14:35

Pure speculation on my part but maybe Meghan and Harry, given their interest in women's empowerment, find it hard to be around Andrew. And he seems to be able to do no wrong in HM's eye. I actually wonder how Sophie can bear to be around him too, considering the work she does with charities that help victims of sexual violence.

Diana was ballet mad, but she was also proficient in the foxtrot, waltz, etc, as indeed is Prince Charles. It would certainly have been expected of her generation of royals, but would it be now, is the question I'm asking.

If you're not partial to a reel, Christmas and New Year with the Royals could be a pretty awkward gig...

BeatriceTheBeast · 13/11/2019 14:40

Yeah, really good point @QueenOfTheAndals. I wouldn't be surprised if that is something to do with it.

BeatriceTheBeast · 13/11/2019 14:40

Do you think they all get up and dance the foxtrot though? I mean, it seems archaic to me, but I'm far from royal.

TheOliphantintheRoom · 13/11/2019 14:45

But they are a couple pushing 40. What would Mumsnetters advise them?

Do a big M&S shop and spend the day in your pjs, hun.

BeatriceTheBeast · 13/11/2019 14:56

Oliphant, how dare thee? You know mumsnetters would never say "hun" Halloween Wink.

Encyclo · 13/11/2019 15:16

I read somewhere that W and H fell out because of Kate's "rural rival"

That would make sense to me and if true he must be fuming that Meghan's getting the blame in the UK press,

Notice how quickly the "rural rival" story died a quick death, replaced by "Relatable
Kate" stories.

thisenglishlife · 13/11/2019 15:36

Back to the dancing, has anyone seen the video of William's dad dancing in Switzerland? W&K had skipped the Commonwealth Day service but he left her at home for a holiday with his friends.

One of the headlines was - 'Prince William gyrating with two blondes on notorious bender in the Alps'

And the captions included - What will Kate think? The Prince can be seen in the background with his hand on a woman's waist.

Newspapers, eh?

Honestly, I'm refusing to even read the stories about where H&M might be for next 6 weeks or for Christmas. It's all speculation. Who knows what their plans are - they haven't announced anything and these theories are based, at best, on very sketchy "sources". So I'll just wait and see. I'm not even sure the 6 weeks off story was an actual story - certainly I don't believe it was ever announced by BP or on SussexRoyal?

And more importantly, who cares? People can bleat about how we have a right to certain information because we fund them blah blah but we don't actually have the right to make demands of them when it comes to things like Christmas and Thanksgiving. Even if I subscribed to the theory that they work for me because we pay for them (I don't), that doesn't mean I get to know everything and anything, and especially not in advance.

And yy to the Andrew thing. I thought the wreath laying must have been hell for William and Harry standing next to him in public.

BlingLoving · 13/11/2019 15:39

For dancing, surely they'd probably have lessons etc because might be expected to know how to do certain dances for certain formal events?

frugalkitty · 13/11/2019 15:45

Right, I'm the expert in 'having to drag your arse across the country to stay with the in laws in Norfolk' so my judgement about this is that if I can do it, so can Harry and Meghan Grin

TheOliphantintheRoom · 13/11/2019 15:51

how dare thee? You know mumsnetters would never say "hun"

Grin not when it were all fields round here they wouldn't but we have had an invasion of the huns and them what finish their post with a x

BeatriceTheBeast · 13/11/2019 16:13

I don't know what you mean x

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 13/11/2019 16:26

That's what I would have thought.

Also I imagine it has its uses, didn't the Queen head off a diplomatic incident by offering to dance with some stroppy ruler or other?

WineOrGinOrBoth · 13/11/2019 16:35

I hate staying with people (IBS) & find it excruciating.

I have to do it annually with dhs family for 3 nights at Christmas. I’ve given up telling dh how much I hate it as he (& they) doesn’t get it. If I can do it so can M&H - if there’s any truth to the rumour.

BlingLoving · 13/11/2019 16:36

According to the Crown, yes. In Ghana I think?

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2019 16:49

I’m pretty sure they’ve all learned to dance- if part of your “job” involves going to balls, you’d be taught how to do it.

JaimeBronde · 13/11/2019 17:26

frugal are you 'royal' Grin

BeatriceTheBeast · 13/11/2019 17:32

@WineOrGinOrBoth

You are a hero to do that every year! You honestly couldn't pay me enough . The last time I spent the night with all of my in-laws was over two years ago on an ill advised week away. I am still recovering and tbh, so is everyone else! We'll never be the same again 😂.

thisenglishlife · 13/11/2019 17:37

@WineOrGinOrBoth

For IBS, diarrhoea or eating out with intolerance or other issues... you need enterosgel. My best ever discovery!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/11/2019 17:44

Kate is opening The Nook at the East Anglian Children’s Hospice on Friday

justasking111 · 13/11/2019 18:06

We have had the juggle trying to keep everyone in the family happy at xmas, my DM was a horror if things did not go her way. I feel for anyone at this time of year.

BeatriceTheBeast · 13/11/2019 18:12

My DM died quite suddenly one Christmas eve, so it's a weird time of year for my siblings and me anyway. So we now do precisely what the fuck we want and luckily most people understand. I'm so grateful that my MIL is amazing and doesn't care (afaik) or pressure us into anything. A few of the rest of my in laws can be a PITA, so it's just as well really as tbh, I don't fancy seeing some of them at Christmas.

banivani · 13/11/2019 18:20

When they’re out I’ll make sure to post the saccharine Swedish rf christmas videos here for you ;) baking and what not.

I think thin black tights are fine. I think black opaques are overrated.

I am surprised anyone takes the daily mail seriously when it comes to information? They are liars. Use them for the pictures, that’s all they’re good for (because they do not shy away from intrusive photos).

Here’s a little Irish ditty on the daily mail for us all to ponder.
