La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo - anyone else get horrendous flaking and dry skin after using?

Have heard loads about LRP (mainly on here) and finally bought some last week. Now, good news is that it seems to be clearing up the spots, but now my skin is awfully flaky and peeling! Makeup on top looks terrible.
To try to combat the flakiness, I’m using the LRP Toleraine cream, which is ok, but using this makes makeup go all caked and dry.
Help!

It had the same effect in my daughter. All skin types are different, I guess you just don't know until you try.

tigerbear · 11/11/2019 19:58

@ButDoYouAvocado how long did it take for her skin to get back to normal/did she use any other product to combat it?

Seems such a waste of money buying something from a skincare line which is supposed to be for sensitive skin, only for it to have this effect.

It doesn’t have that effect on mine and never has - maybe you need a richer moisturiser, or a facial mist just to add in a bit more help for your skin?

tigerbear · 11/11/2019 20:13

@nyon the Toleraine is supposed to be extra rich soothing cream.
Maybe I’ll try using the Effaclar every other day instead of every day to see if it makes a difference.
I’ve got a Tea Tree mist from Revolution but it contains Glycerin, so not sure if that’s going to cause more spots...

We stopped using it altogether and it recovered in about a week. I'm afraid we binned them.

Maybe get something like Marula oil from the ordinary and some hyalaronic acid booster (hada labo) and mix in to moisturiser. Make sure you’re putting moisturiser on damp skin, and a lot.

tigerbear · 12/11/2019 08:11

@Jesuisclaude I’ve got some Ordinary Hylaraunic acid so will try that.

My skin was horrendous for the first couple of weeks, all flaky and major spot outbreak in my eyebrows of all places! I had been warned so persevered and now my skin is fantastic. I use it most days under make up and wouldn’t be without it. I’d keep going for another week or so.

dontgobaconmyheart · 12/11/2019 11:04

Effaclar was the worst thing I've tried tbh, I imagine it's great if you have very oily skin but same OP, it made mine sore, dry and tight with redness- and made my spots worse. It was no way sufficient as a 'moisturiser' as someone who has dry sensitive skin. Having tried a few other salicylic acid type products I just don't seem to get on with it.

I would stop and give your skin a break rather than add other things in, use a decent moisturiser that works for you and then reintroduce it every other day and see how it goes.

tigerbear · 12/11/2019 11:07

That’s interesting, @Ratonastick, i did wonder if it would be one of those ‘worse before it gets better’ kind of products.
I’ll def persevere, as the spots are really clearing up. I used a Superdrug serum this morning before makes up and the flakiness and dryness seems to be going. Smile

@dontgobaconmyheart I just find it so weird that my skin reacted SO badly to a range that’s supposed to be for sensitive skin, did you think that?
I think I’ll use it every other day, as I do actually like the cleansing gel, but maybe to harsh for every day.

I oil cleanse as that suits my very sensitive skin if that’s any help.

tigerbear · 12/11/2019 13:35

@Jesuisclaude which oil do you use?

OP posts:
tigerbear · 12/11/2019 13:36

Do you use the Marula to cleanse?

just reviving this thread as I’m having the same problem. Did you persevere @tigerbear and did it get better?

tigerbear · 06/03/2020 11:48

@HelpIHaveNothingToWear I didn’t persevere with it, no.
Instead, I bought a bottle of Paula’s Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant, and I hardly have any spots at all now. It’s my holy grail product, and didn’t irritate my skin like the LRP did.
Def recommend, it’s the best thing I’ve ever used on my skin. Seems to smooth out all the tiny little bumps as well as big spots.

Hello, I have been using that micropeeling green bottle for a week now . I have acne skin since I was young so my scars have been there for about 10 years . I notice the bottle is good at clearing my marks slowly, hasn’t given me any new spots . HOWEVER I noticed peeling and flakiness on my skin near my right eye . I ignored it and continued at normal . Now coming to the end of the week bother side of my eye is now dry and need my mouth. You can see the white flakiness . The rest of my face is fine but feels dry like I need moisturiser . After using the clenser, my face now burns even when using any other moisturiser .
