Ok so I impulse bought some 'paper bag' trousers...

Wtf does one wear with them?

I went into the shop to get some new black trousers, for those occasions where I feel jeans might not be appropriate.

Our local shopping centre is rubbish though, and the black trousers were either awful or not my size.

So I bought these black/grey checked things, that didn't even look especially flattering. I sort of liked the fabric/pattern though.

Footwear options in my house:
Vans
Doc martens
Boots with a bit of a heel
Um.. Some shoes with not much of a heel.

What kind of top? Should it be tucked in? Is wearing a longer top wrong?

This will teach me to visit clothes shops...

Yes, top tucked in! In winter I would wear with a roll neck top and loafers or ballet flats

Tucked in top and slightly fitted and minimalist IMO, as there is already volume/detail on the waist.

A plain, slash neck fine knit jumper for example.

Do you have to be super skinny to wear them? They are so unflattering on me!

Yeah I'm a 'modern' size 10. So not exactly super skinny!

I will inspect my jumper stock...MIL loves to buy me random ones.

No loafers around here...

I have some impulse bought grey ones. Wear with with black or white trainers occasionally dms or pointy flats. Tight jumpers occasionally in jewel like colours so emerald green or blue.
They are not my favourite thing but have got quite a lot of wear and have fitted thermal leggings under at posher winter dos!

Wear with whatever (shoes and tops). Just tuck the front of the jumper in and leave the sides / back hanging out.

I wore them today with my DMs and a bright turqoise coloured jumper. On closer inspection they were grey/dark grey check not black 😅

It wasn't ideal cos the jumper was too long to tuck in. But my shorter buttoned jumper was annoying me cos it didn't sit right on my boobs so I gave up.

They were comfy enough though and I liked having not plain black trousers, so that was a success.
