Pref art deco style and either sapphire or pref emerald. Budget is small at £250 so I know it won't be a high quality stone but just something v pretty or unusual. Any suggestions?

My engagement ring is vintage Art Deco from an antiques fair.

Can you help me find a ring please?

@Redviola that's actually the ring I've saved the link for! Unfortunately I like the rose gold finish and it's out of my budget.😢

Green amethyst rather than emerald though

Do you want Art Deco or just Art Deco style? The link Redviola posted is a new ring in a similar style whereas the other links are vintage rings but from the 1980s and 1990s not from the Art Deco period.

If you are buying a vintage ring you need to look at the size and how much it would need to be resized. You can only realistically go down a couple of sizes before you start to bend the setting and loosen the stones. Some styles can’t really be resized at all.

You also need to be very careful that you know what you’re getting - the ring in the first link has a Chatham emerald, which is a lab created emerald that’s virtually worthless. Fine if that’s what you want, but make sure you’re not getting ripped off by thinking you’re buying a real emerald. Personally I’d prefer a real one anyway.

Have you any auction houses near you? You might find something preowned within your budget.

So would I @TiceCream but I can't afford one. 😂 I would really love a beautiful genuine art deco ring with a real emerald but my budget just does not permit that. I see a lot of rings advertised as art deco and they're really not - one of them is almost identical to my engagement ring from 1986 just with a different stone.

No auction houses anywhere near me unfortunately.

Have you looked at second hand shops?

BitOfFun · 10/11/2019 15:02

How about this?

BitOfFun · 10/11/2019 15:05

Or this?

BitOfFun · 10/11/2019 15:07

OOH, gorgeous emerald!

BitOfFun · 10/11/2019 15:09

Sapphire...

BitOfFun · 10/11/2019 15:17

SWOON.

SpiderCharlotte · 10/11/2019 17:22

Lovely, @BitOfFun but mostly out of my price range - I need a windfall! Smile

For something far more affordable but very lovely, have a look here... vbylauravann.com/collections/rings?_=pf&sort=created-descending&limit=48

I’ve seen items from this brand in a store in London, and thought they would be far more expensive than they actually are.

TiceCream · 10/11/2019 18:11

If you’re buying a ready made ring for that price it’ll probably be a small simple ring like this www.etsy.com/uk/listing/605364383/blue-sapphire-ring-minimalist-ring-blue

Or possibly a vintage ring. Most of the ones in your price range look quite Victorian but here are a few that look vaguely Art Deco.

Imo you’d be better off approaching a jeweller to see what they can make within your budget. It’s often possible to provide old gold jewellery to be melted down so you only pay for labour not materials. Created sapphires literally cost about a tenner.

Look on eBay. It might take a while, but frequently browsing might turn up what you’re looking for at an affordable price.
