Tips for a professional headshot photo?

I'm a frumpy mum fairly trim, 12-14, who lives in jeans and a ski jacket and trainers but I have to get professional headshots for a website which will be seen by clients and prospective clients and could open doors for me in lots of really great ways.

I've booked my (groupon Grin ) photo shoot with a makeup makeover but my wardrobe is so depressing. I largely work from home so haven't had to look sharp for work for at least a decade. What I have is dated. Blouses and black pencil skirts, I've got polo necks and opaque tights to wear with non black skirts (Tweedy ones etc).

How would you style me? What should I wear? I can pick up some bits. I need to look a bit artistic and creative and senior. Maybe a shirt in a fashionable cut/pattern? Tips would be very very welcome!

Be aware that the background for shoots is often white or grey so wear a mid-toned colour. I'm not good at styling but wear "you". I'd avoid obvious fashion (it can date) and wear the outfit- don't let the outfit wear you. X

I wore a Hobbs type jersey top for mine in dark red. I just couldn't bring myself to wear a blazer. Pick a colour that suits you but not neon bright.

That's helpful thanks both. I have a orange fine wool long sleeve top. I suit orange for some reason and it's a nice tone. Might take that along.
