Why is everything polyester!?

Can anyone help me track down a nice little black dress that isn't made of bloody polyester please?

I'm part of a singing group who are performing at the end of the month and we are all to wear a lbd in our own style. Literally everything I've searched so far has been synthetic fibres and given that there is some dancing involved and it will be roasting under the stage lights I'd rather not be sweating buckets in some nasty fabric. I'm watching a few from LK Bennet and Karen Millen on eBay but they don't always list the material and I'd rather buy new (budget permitting!)

For background I'm 36, 5'3, and an hourglass size 12/14 so have the tendency to look dumpy. No issues with arms but would prefer midi length so I don't have to add tights to avoid flashing underwear at the front row

Can anyone please please help me?

There is a hell of a lot of Viscose. Much much much more than polyester!

Polyester I can wear, Viscose I cannot. Shopping for clothes is a right pain.

How do you feel about viscose (as possible says it’s everywhere) but if it’s ok for you, the Winser Miracle dress is a good lbd (if you buy it in black!)

Viscose creases less than cotton and keeps its shape. It is a natural fabric. It’s more common name is bamboo.

No, bamboo fabric is a form of viscose, but all viscose is not bamboo. Viscose is made by breaking down some sort of plant containing cellulose and making a fibre from the cellulose.

Search by material on the websites. Hobbs has lots of linen dresses.

La Redoute has a few - search for black cotton dress. The one in the image is from La Redoute and is 100% cotton.

Boden - the dress is cotton. Unfortunately the lining is polyester.

I'd look at the ethical clothing companies - they're not massively more expensive these days & generally have some nice plain options in organic cotton for lbds & the like.
With a quick look People Tree have a midi skater dress in black organic cotton which looks rather nice. Or this is a very plain midi sleeveless style.
