Lightweight padded coat

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 07/11/2019 21:15

I've trawled online and proper shops and they are either too expensive, too long too short or too heavy and bulky
I need a work coat, I'm freezing. I drive around so want a lightweight padded type coat. Not a long one but long enough just to cover my bum
Neat for work, not Michelin man style
Ideally I don't want to spend more than £80 and, after watching a horrendous documentary, I prefer not down
Has anyone got one that meets my requirements. I was sure tkmaxx would have one but they were all long or short

Sainsbury’s have a lightweight one. Not down but padded. Also George at Asda.

Stumpedasatree · 08/11/2019 22:16

Try Uniqlo light down coats?

slipperyeel · 08/11/2019 22:51

I bought a Tesco one as a stopgap and it’s actually really nice - light and cosy and £29

LightOfAThousandStars · 09/11/2019 15:32

Superdry Icelandic Parka

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 09/11/2019 15:47

I have this one. Its fab!

Parker231 · 09/11/2019 15:52

Mountain Warehouse - they have lots and frequent sales.

LightOfAThousandStars · 09/11/2019 19:18

@Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany that's a great deal, might get one myself too. Is it warm enough for winter?

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 09/11/2019 19:21

It is. Its not thick but intent to wear a hoody under mine when standing on a football pitch. When walking to and from work its great!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/11/2019 19:24

I bought one from Asda a couple of moths ago.
Zip front , long length, not too padded but quite warm.
About £25

And I didn't want down (for the same reason)

FenellaMaxwell · 09/11/2019 19:44

Don’t buy the M&S one- it’s lovely at first - lightweight, warm, dry - but within a day or so it’s like you’ve massacred a chicken. Feathers everywhere!

Zinnia · 09/11/2019 23:59

Uniqlo ultra light down hooded coat sounds like what you're after. They do a longer version too if you prefer

greenlavender · 10/11/2019 07:25

I'd try Uniqlo or Primark. I've seen them there.

BloomedAgain · 11/11/2019 18:52

How long is your mountain warehouse coat @Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany ? I'm hoping to fit a light down layer underneath so may size up.

evilharpy · 11/11/2019 19:58

I saw some lightweight, packable ones with hoods in Primark the other day for about £18 or £20. Various colours including black and a dusky pink. They were lovely but unfortunately didn’t fit me well, I’m pear shaped and the small was a bit tight around my hips but the medium was enormous.

Too chunky ?

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 11/11/2019 22:06

I’m just 5’1” so just above the knee. But its great to keep my legs warm at football!

WellTidy · 11/11/2019 22:10

Is it very long on your arms Ithink? I am 5 foot 1 too, and generally find coats not in a petite fit very long on the arms.

BloomedAgain · 11/11/2019 23:37

Thanks Ithink. Sounds ideal as I'm not much taller.

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 12/11/2019 07:12

I find it fine on the arms too.

Mountain warehouse do returns (free returns but they deduct £3 from your refund if you do by post so not really free!)

Do you have a shop local to you?

WellTidy · 12/11/2019 07:36

No local shop unfortunately. I think I will take a punt. Thanks!

homemadecommunistrussia · 12/11/2019 07:49

I can't understand how many people are suggesting down coats when you have said you don't want down!Confused
craghoppers
montane

LightOfAThousandStars · 13/11/2019 21:37

OP did you find one yet? I saw some in Asda today that might be ok, very lightweight and not too long.
