When does a teddy coat become faux fur

And vice versa.
I’ve always been against fur, real or fake as in my view even fake fur glamorises and encourages real fur. This obviously makes buying coats for the kids close to impossible as 90% have fur trim but that’s not my current issue.
I’m rather keen on the idea of a teddy coat as it seems my morals don’t extend to the fate of defenceless teddies.
There are flippin loads of coats branded as teddy or faux fur at the mo but there is a blurred line between the two. I’ve fallen for a statement coat described as faux fur but in my view looks very much teddy.

I’m conflicted... help me please!
Here is the coat... ignoring the label is this teddy or fur? www.frenchconnection.com/product/woman-collections/70mnl/claudie-faux-fur-oversized-colour-block-coat.htm

Faux fur looks like a fur coat but Teddy coats have a more bobbly fleece type appearance.

This is the texture of a teddy coat

Well, the coat in the link doesn't look anything like real fur, and I wouldn't say is glamorous (it's ok, a nice warm coat not luxurious-looking) so I'd say you can wear it with a clear conscience.

I've wrestled with this too Thinkle and thought I was the only one!

I would say that your coat, with its different colours and particular texture, is much more 'teddy' than 'real animal'.

You might also consider a thistledown coat if you want guilt-free fluffiness.

Probably more for the summer, though!

It definitely doesn't resemble anything natural. Go for it.

I don't wear fake fur for exactly the same reason and don't think I would wear that coat. Obviously it would depend on what it looked like in real life, but the texture looks too much like that of fur to me.

AliceLittle · 07/11/2019 13:10

I think the teddy coat is more similar to fleece than faux fur.

Apparently the original max mara teddy coat was made of camel hair woven with silk... so not sure where that sits in the spectrum of views.
I’m erring towards thinking that the french connection one isn’t too animal fur like.
