What shoes with this dress?

Long time S&B lurker here, venturing out of the woodwork for some urgent black-tie-event advice please...
I’m going to an event on Saturday which is said to be black tie, but I don’t think it’s very formal so I think anything goes really. I’ve got a dress I can wear which is similar to the one in the pic attached (which is a random pic from google as I’m not at home), but the skirt is black and gold.

Question is re the shoes... can I get away with black shoe boots? The ones I have are high heeled and quite dainty as far as shoe boots go. They are black suede.

If shoe boots are acceptable, then would I need to wear black tights? Or would nude be better to break it up a bit?

Thanks in advance all ye knowledgable ones.

For a black tie I'd stick to heeled shoes rather than boots and either black or nude tights.
Boots just feel a bit casual or edgy.

I wouldn't wear shoe boots to a black tie event but someone more stylish might say otherwise!

I'd probably wear black peep toe sandals or high black courts- not officey

Minkyscamp · 06/11/2019 19:14

Thanks both. That’s what my initial instinct was, but I need someone to tell me shoe boots will be ok because I have them and they are comfy!

This is the actual dress in case it makes any difference, and the boots

I think a pointy-toe stiletto with ankle strap would look great with that dress!

Something like this . . .

The boots are fine to wear. Have fun x

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/11/2019 19:28

I think heeled shoe boots would be fine. I doubt anybody would even notice, tbh. You could wear sheer black tights, maybe, if you didn't want nude.

managedmis · 06/11/2019 19:30

It'll be fine. I'm assuming you're in the UK so it'll be cold?

amiapropermum · 06/11/2019 19:47

The dress is gorgeous! I don't think the boots go with it but I'm not the best with these things. How long is the dress on you?

BeatriceTheBeast · 06/11/2019 19:54

I think the shoe boots are fine, seeing as it's winter... How black tie are we talking? A 'black tie' office party or a full on ball?

TheTittefers · 06/11/2019 19:59

I would go for a court with a stiletto heel in a nice wintry colour - burgundy, or copper/gold.

Like www.schuh.ie/womens/schuh-flirty-black-and-red-high-heels/1125307360/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA-4nuBRCnARIsAHwyuPqTU7TZs-zc82_5Wz-9rcJ1QmgQNyHX7ihCX16Uw9PVBWgFDlEUNHkaAlFqEALw_wcB or something in a jewel tone, suede.

BeFire · 06/11/2019 20:01

Boots will be fine with that dress and black opaques.

Minkyscamp · 06/11/2019 20:02

Yes it’s a informal event really, not a swanky affair. And yes, in the bleak UK.
Thanks everyone for the replies. Ive just tried it on with the boots and think it’s about ok.

Yeah, go for the boots. Nothing worse than buying new shoes for an event only to find you can't walk in the feckers or they tear your feet to shreds.

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 06/11/2019 20:05

Boots good, but how about a different colour shoe and match it to some chunky jewellery ?

Lilylilyroserose · 06/11/2019 20:19

I think the boots will look fab. Use sheet black tights. 😉

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/11/2019 20:22

I'd definitely go with sheer black, rather than opaques, personally.

JasBBGG · 06/11/2019 21:04

Isn't it snowing at the weekend? BOOTS!
