Hello!

I need help buying my sister in law a birthday present. My budget is around £50-80. She is so lovely and always buys my kids such thoughtful gifts but I can't think what to get her as while I love clothes and beauty etc our styles are poles apart.

She is much younger than me - early 20s and she is super on trend (think those eyebrows that are in, pointy nails and often a undercut in her hair - I often think she would look amazing in a girl band) and I just have no idea. If it were up to me I'd treat her to a voucher so she could go choose what she likes but DH says vouchers are thoughtless.

Anything I think of either seems mumsy or a bit personal - like jewellery, beauty stuff - everyone's likes and tastes are different!

Any ideas or suggestions of websites I can browse?

“ There are certain items that are general crowd pleasers, like a Gucci belt or a Louis Vuitton card holder”

A card holder is a crowd pleaser? Really? A card holder?

SinglePringle · 07/11/2019 20:23

Is she near London? Liberty gift vouchers are solid coins in various denominations and come in a small bag. Like dabloons!

She could use them in one of the best make up departments in London (Surrat, Aucoin, Trish McEvoy, Chantecaille) and they’re lovely in themselves. Plus, no expiry date.

What about 6 months Birchbox subscription? It gives all sorts of beauty /make up samples

WellTidy · 07/11/2019 20:28

What about a beauty advent calendar? There are loads within your budget. You can get make up, skincare or a mix. Some are full 24 windows and others Have 12. There is a very comprehensive thread about them.

What about a really lovely mirror compact and then a voucher/gift card so she can choose something for herself?

mamaoffourdc · 07/11/2019 20:54

@SinglePringle omg - how cute!

Wallabyone · 07/11/2019 21:11

@SinglePringle Thank you so much! I have a younger sister, and usually get her Selfridges vouchers but these sound amazing! She would love it-thank you Smile

SinglePringle · 07/11/2019 21:13

You’re welcome! They have a Liberty image on them! Almost too good to spend!

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 07/11/2019 21:23

Would she wear Lucy and Yak dungarees?

PersonaNonGarter · 07/11/2019 22:09

Make up palette from Space NK. There is a fabulous Hourglass one in your price bracket

TowelNumber42 · 07/11/2019 22:13

Is this your husband's sister? Or your brother's wife?

HollowTalk · 07/11/2019 22:19

I reckon if you were to ask her she'd come up with a mile-long list of things she'd love.

Lhastingsmua · 07/11/2019 23:21

@pictish Frankly I’m not quite sure why you think luxury small leather goods would not be crowd pleasers? They’re actually the most popular items luxury retailers stock due to the attainable cost and versatility; customers can take something like a luxury card holder with them everywhere.

Card holders have replaced wallets, especially for Londoners. In fact, Louis Vuitton’s card holder has been out of stock worldwide for several months if that’s any indication of the product’s popularity.

Someone in their early 20s may not have a large amount of disposable income to regularly buy themselves products from luxury retailers, hence why it would be a great gift. They’re also very trendy/instagrammable. There will be many people receiving one this Christmas, who would be more than happy with one.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/11/2019 23:52

Not an advent calendar. They are not Christmas presents. Love the sound of Liberty gift coins, but only useful if she's likely to get to London in the new year.

Volvemos · 08/11/2019 16:46

@Lhastingsmua might depend if she’s vegan or not

Wildthyme · 08/11/2019 16:54

Ask her.

My daughter is 24 and I had to ask what she'd like. I've now bought her a pair of raw denim Levis, straight not skinny, new DMs and skull earrings from Crazy Pig.

littlepooch · 15/11/2019 14:01

Thank you all very much.

Some absolutely lovely suggestions, some of you have been so helpful and I'm very grateful for all the suggestions. Some investigating has given me a few ideas for both her birthday and Christmas. I am seeing her this weekend so will also ask her as often I just wish people would ask me what I like!

And for those commenting my husband should do it, we split stuff fairly and buying presents is my job as I love shopping and thinking about what to buy. He more than pulls his weight. Having chatted to him, it transpires he thinks of a voucher as being an Amazon or m&s thing, rather than something a bit more thoughtful.

Anyway thanks again!

I'd get her some Charlotte Tilbury make-up brushes. My DD had some for her 21st birthday and was so delighted.
