Trainers with long socks

For ages everyone's been wearing trainers with those little tiny short socks that don't even cover the ankles let alone the calves. On me these always always fall down so the sock ends up bunched up in the shoe kind of half on half off around the arch of my foot. I end up just taking them off and going sockless and cold.

Long socks on the other hand are heaven, so cosy and warm but I haven't seen anyone wearing them with trainers for years. Why???? Please can everyone help me bring these back? My ankles are so cold!!!!

I know what you mean: suddenly those really short socks appeared in the late 90's, and haven't gone away since. I too solve this problem by going sockless (except I like doing do): I don't understand those short or invisible socks.

As for why the socks that cover the ankle are rarely seen: maybe people associate it with school uniform, or gentlemen who wear socks with sandals. Fashions come and go: no need to follow the crowd. If you like socks that cover the ankle, go for it. Many adults cringe at teenagers wearing sliders and socks, even though they seem to love it!

Depends on what else you are wearing!
My socks come above my ankle bone, but very little sock is seen between my trainers and my jeans (because I cant get into jeggings).

I do it. In Scotland, bare ankle season is fleeting.

Set the trend OP, someone has got to be first and then eventually everyone will start doing it again. Grin

No, no, no. I do like little fishnet pop socks with my trainers though!

I commute through central london every day. I see loads of stylish people wearing socks with trainers.

The trousers are cropped or rolled up and loose fitting and expose a good six inches of sock. The socks are normally bright colours or those thick ribbed kinda rugby/hiking style.

The trainers/shoes are all sorts; the neoprene sock type, chunky ugly 90s style, futuristic y3 ones, old school dunks and air force, brogues, d.ms....

This sort of thing? I'd look frankly a bit bonkers in that look, but I don't think it looks bad in this photo as it is so obviously deliberate...dare I say, 'ironic'?

I saw someone wearing black trainers and black socks yesterday. I thought they looked good. But they did fit in with her style. Doubt I could carry it off though

Trainers and 'long' socks just seems so normal to me. Who wants cold ankles!
