Foundation Samples

Is there anywhere that sells foundation samples online?

I was refused samples from 3 different counters today... they want to either apply a smear to your jawline and expect you to make a decision based on that Hmm or want you to book in for a full £30 consultation/makeover.

If I'm spending £40 on a foundation I'd just like a small sample of 2-3 pumps to try it and wear it for the day, to see how it lasts, whether it oxidises, what it looks like in daylight, etc. Why don't makeup counters do this?

I've always found that MAC, Bobbi Brown, Lancôme and Dior give out samples.

mnahmnah · 02/11/2019 22:27

The MAC counter offered me a mini pot sample without asking

millymoo1202 · 02/11/2019 23:08

I went to Bobbi brown today and am home with 2 huge samples, I would never buy without trying as sample I got last week was far too yellow once I tried at home. X

Get a pot from Mac and use that to give yourself a sample.

Weegiepie · 03/11/2019 09:25

I buy samples from ebay Blush

Cordial11 · 03/11/2019 09:35

Where refused? I know illamasqua say no samples (and therefore I won’t buy)! But never known anywhere else. When your spending £30 plus I think it’s the norm as it’s not like you can return...

MadnessInMethod · 03/11/2019 12:53

I tried Nars, YSL and illamasqua all said no.

While I'm here, any other recommendations to replace EStee Lauder doublewear which I feel is too heavy now I'm a bit older?

I always used to swap foundations, I love trying new products. In the last 6 months or so I've been using bare minerals (original powder) and I don't think I'll use anything else now. It looks natural and glowy but covers everything. You have to learn to use it properly though (YouTube). I'm 53

PurpleDaisies · 03/11/2019 15:10

Urban decay do samples. I really like their naked skin foundation.

I think you might have been unlucky. YSL have done a full face of foundation on me before.

definitelyshouldknowbetter · 03/11/2019 17:15

Most counters have samples, be honest about wanting a new foundation but wanting to try it yourself first, they’ll need to colour match you so you will need to sit down and have a little applied on cheek/jawline to find your shade.
Lancome, Clinique, YSL, Lauder and Dior all definitely do samples(I work in a beauty hall)

If you want full coverage but not as heavy as double wear then I’d try Even Better Refresh from Clinique or Dior Forever

snowone · 03/11/2019 17:40

Have you tired the light version of double wear? Estée Lauder also own MAC I believe so I would presume their products are equally as good.

TattiePants · 03/11/2019 17:50

I've had samples from Estee Lauder and Bare Minerals recently.

LemonPrism · 03/11/2019 18:36

That's strange... I've had them from most places - Armani, Chanel, YSL.

I have eczema so ask them for a weeks use to make sure I don't react over time before buying

LemonPrism · 03/11/2019 18:40

If they don't oblige I don't buy and email their office to ask their policy and question it for those of us with hyper sensitive skin.

I'm not spending £40 to bleed
