Wedding ring help please, anyone got silver they've had for years?

I'm getting married in December and looking for a wedding ring, on a budget, never wear gold as it doesn't suit me. Had seen a nice couple of silver rings from Ola Gorie (Scottish/Orkney jeweller) but have since read that silver isn't suitable for a wedding ring as not durable. Can't stretch to platinum and white gold apparently can need re plating. I had an 18ct white gold ring last time which was beautiful and didn't need re plating but due to budget am probably looking at 9ct if I go for white gold at all. I've got a silver ring I've worn for 25 years that is fine but bent a bit out of shape, I could live with that. Any knowledge or advice gratefully received!

I have worn a silver wedding band for almost 15 years, having lost my original platinum ring 😱. It was replaced on insurance but I’m too nervous to wear it so it’s just left in the box. My silver band was bought cheaply from Argos to wear everyday and still looks perfect now - unlike my husbands platinum ring that looks dull due to wear.
Ps I also have an Ola Gorie ring and think it would be lovely 😊

Hi everyone thank you so much for all your replies. I had been looking at a chunky silver design from Ola Gorie I will try and post photo but not sure how to. I've never heard of tungsten for rings will have a look.
The ownart thing sounds brilliant. Their map is a bit tricky to use but I don't think there is anywhere near me that does jewellery. I'm looking for something patterned or engraved not plain as I don't have an engagement ring.

My platinum wedding band (plain) was £200 in 2016.

I wouldn’t rule out platinum without speaking to a few independent jewellers- unless you want something ornate or chunky you might be surprised at the price.

DH got a palladium band as a platinum ring in his size would have been £££. They’re indistinguishable (to me anyway!)

Look at pawn shops, 2nd hand is always cheaper and I'm sure older jewelry is better quality. Don't go somewhere cool like the lanes in Brighton as they increase the price massively.

The Ola Gorie ring is lovely

CointreauVersial · 02/11/2019 21:23

That ring is gorgeous! It's sufficiently chunky that it will last for years. Silver is a little softer than gold or platinum so it will start to look a little "lived in" as the years go by, but that will just add to the charm of a ring like that. Go with what you love.

That's beautiful! We have silver wedding rings, 21 years and they are perfectly fine. They're similar in shape to the one you like, but without the pattern.

OP, I have been wearing a silver Ola Gorie willow ring every day for about twenty years now. It’s a wee bit worn but still beautiful. I have quite a few Ola Gorie pieces and they are really good quality. They also do repairs for much loved jewelry if required. The ring you have picked is gorgeous - go for it. I wish I had gone for a silver Ola wedding ring instead of the plain band I have, they are very special.

have a look here
www.cooksongold.com/Wedding-Ring-Blanks/

You'll need to add VAT and a jeweller (or a friend if you know anyone) to polish it, but you'll save loads

IlikebigMutts · 09/11/2019 19:43

Thanks all. I've bought a second hand platinum one, it's fairly thin with floral pattern on. I paid £210 for it. Sussexbonfireviking that would have been a great idea if I knew anyone to polish the ring! I was looking for something with a pattern as I don't have an engagement ring
