I put my lenses in then do my make up but find I get specks of eyeshadow in my eyes and this is really irritating with lenses. What am I doing wrong?

I put my lenses in last, after I’ve done my make up - I have to get really close to the mirror thoughSmile. I can’t seem to see clearly close up to do my make with my lenses in - probably something to do with my prescription & habit (very shortsighted & years of doing my make up pressed up to the mirror).

LadyOfTheCanyon · 30/10/2019 17:56

I'm short sighted and wear contacts plus reading glasses if necessary -ah, age..!
A good magnifying small mirror will see you right for putting on eye make up up close. ( I've found this invaluable in getting my brows right) but also I've moved over to creams rather than powder to stop bits getting in my eyes. GOSH and e.l.f do some really good ones that stay put all day.

I always put my lenses in after makeup but as with PP it doesn't mean I'm sitting right at the mirror as can't see to do it otherwise!!

HundredMilesAnHour · 30/10/2019 19:22

I put my lenses in before I do my make-up bu I've never had eyeshadow specks in my eyes. I wear eyeshadow every day Mon-Fri and in over 20 years, I've never had a problem. Maybe it's how you're applying your eyeshadow or the brand you use? I'm baffled as to how this can happen.

optimisticpessimist01 · 30/10/2019 20:59

This happens to me sometimes OP. I spoke to my optometrist about this actually because I was thinking about swapping my routine to putting them in after doing my makeup, and she said absolutely no way to do this, put them in before. I think you just need to be more careful, or try and fully close one eye when putting makeup in?

Sorry I cannot offer a solution, however thought I'd put the advice i'd received in about when to put your contacts in

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 30/10/2019 21:05

I too have been putting them in before make-up for many years and never had a problem. I can't put make-up on without them in as I can't see to do it (I have to go without if I'm wearing glasses). I'd suggest going over to cream shadows too.

JoinTheMicrodots · 30/10/2019 21:12

I've worn contacts for 30+ years, always put them in before applying makeup, and have also never had a problem with getting eye makeup in my eyes. I'm also a bit baffled as to how you're managing that, tbh! Confused Do you use an eye shadow brush?

EdWinchester · 30/10/2019 21:18

I wear (daily) lenses. Put them in straight after a shower and put make-up on afterwards. I have never had a problem.

JoinTheMicrodots · 30/10/2019 21:20

Definitely use a magnifying mirror, btw - couldn't do a good job without that.

Fstar · 30/10/2019 22:11

So are you keeping eye open when applying? Perhaps some eyedrops after makeup to clean lense?

DryWhiteagainW · 30/10/2019 22:15

Like Elloello I apply a dark eyeshadow with a thin Mac brush to my upper eyelid instead of eyeliner, occasionally specks go in my eye. Tbh I’m not very careful so that could be it. I do use an illuminated magnifying mirror so might put my lenses in after make up. Just wondered if there were any tricks.

DryWhiteagainW · 30/10/2019 22:16

Fstar I’ll get some eye drops, I’m new to lenses so hadn’t thought of that

Do what teenagers do nowadays. Start with your eyeshadow first, wipe away any excess powder, then apply foundation etc. Means you can start with your contact lenses jn first.

HelloAgainYou · 30/10/2019 22:24

Just reread what you wrote. Apologies long day. I too don't know how you get specs in your eye!!

SingingMyOwnSpecialSong · 30/10/2019 22:30

If you are using a brush to apply eyeshadow try tapping excess off first. I use cotton buds near my lashes instead if I am doing heavier eye make up. Eye drops work well if you do get any specks of make up on your lenses.

ELM8 · 30/10/2019 23:14

I wear lenses and eyeshadow and have never had this Confused the only thing I can suggest is tap off excess and build layers up slowly? Lenses in before make up 100% though

MissSmiley · 30/10/2019 23:48

I've worn contact lenses for the last 30 years and I always put them in before makeup, I've recently switched to varifocal lenses which are amazing
