Discontinued perfume

So one of my favourite perfumes is discontinued. I use it mostly in the winter. It's high street but was a limited addition. My current bottle is about half full. I got it last winter.

Where would you go for if you had this situation? It's available on Amazon and eBay. Where would you trust? And would you stock up while you see it now ? Or wait? --Not sure what for

Perfume parlour do not currently seem to do a dupe.

What perfume is it?

SurpriseSparDay · 28/10/2019 17:54

This exact misfortune has also befallen me. My reserved for grand winter occasions only perfume has ceased production. I also have half a bottle left - but it’s not a High St brand and could only be bought at one place in England.

I’m borderline distraught and hardly dare touch my precious half bottle.

Wouldn’t really consider buying from an unofficial source; too much money and too much sentiment to risk disappointment.

Have you tried Fragrantica to see if there's anything else with similar notes?

I've sold and bought discontinued perfume on eBay before with no problem!

Bluesheep8 · 28/10/2019 19:09

What is the perfume op?

Fstar · 28/10/2019 19:42

My old favs, ghost cherish, roxy love, jlo love to glow, mimosa (m n s one). Ive bought every bottle ive seen for sale, including ebay and amazon, never any issues

TheCanterburyWhales · 28/10/2019 20:27

I'd trust eBay over Amazon. Amazon is quite infamous (esp Marketplace) for too good to be true prices for perfume.
Never had a problem with eBay but research your sellers and be aware that many miniatures (which generally have a screw top) have been bought empty and filled with s dupe.
Avoid sellers with 300 different perfumes for sale.
I've bought an embarrassing quantity of perfumes from eBay and all fine apart from a few miniatures that I think were fake.

Muckycat · 28/10/2019 20:28

On Ebay using PayPal would you not get your money back if it turns out to be fake anyway? When you say high street, would it be one that

Muckycat · 28/10/2019 20:30

Oops!

Was trying to say do high street perfumes get counterfeited anyway?

tobee · 28/10/2019 20:47

It's Estée Lauder Modern Muse Muse le Rouge Gloss. It's not the poshest perfume but it suits me!

Thanks for the replies. I had also heard bad things about Amazon and better things about eBay re perfume.

What I'd really like to do is bulk buy so it never runs out but it'll probably go off.

I only just quite recently discovered it but I knew it would bound to be discontinued!

Bah! Sad

There is one bottle left in John Lewis.com and all beauty seem to have it in stock

Muckycat · 28/10/2019 21:12

Sorry I think I sounded a bit wanky, didnt mean to!! By high st I thought you meant one by a shop like M&S or somewhere hence not being sure it would be copied...

handsolo · 28/10/2019 21:12

Just noticed the gloss part, but this is still available on notino and the fragrance shop I've added it to my basket to see

Discontinued perfume

Perfume can last a very long time if you keep it in its box and away from strong heat or light. A drawer is fine. Keep an eye out on TK Maxx as they often sell perfume that's about to be discontinued. All beauty does this too and I've bought loads from them . You can trust eBay as they are pretty strict about fakes. Good luck!

tobee · 29/10/2019 00:20

Oh, great, everyone thanks for the help! Smile

I'm in the same position. Marylebone Wood by Penhaligons.

My sister managed to get the last (ever?!) bottle for me today in the Regent St store. They charged her £140 when I have it in writing from them that they slashed it to £79 before discontinuing it. I've called them out on it and as an 'extreme gesture of goodwill' they will refund me.

So if anyone has a bottle knocking about do let me know!

earsup · 29/10/2019 03:05

I bought aramis new west sealed in box off eBay. It was original. I paid £130 a few years ago and now it's over £200. Special occasions only !!

tobee · 29/10/2019 15:44

@AgathaMystery they do have a fair bit available on eBay. Not sure if you're still looking at getting any, whether you trust eBay, like the prices etc?

I’m in the same boat too, womanity by mugler. If anyone sees this anywhere do let me know, they say smell is the strongest link to memory and I used to wear this a while ago. I’d love to be able to get it again, a few sprays and I can get all nostalgic.

But to answer your question, I’d go with amazon. If it’s fake you can return it.

tobee · 29/10/2019 19:17

Thanks!

AgathaMystery · 30/10/2019 00:28

Yes I am bidding on some on eBay. I hate to pay over the odds though.

Puppylucky · 30/10/2019 08:07

I bought a bottle of Womanity on ebay recently - it comes up quite often.
