Perfect Casual Dress - £50 Budget - Possible?

TokyoSushi · 28/10/2019 10:48

I have been looking for ages for a lovely casual dress that I need to be suitable for a few events, thankfully with different people over the next few months.

Events are evening drinks in pub, afternoon tea, afternoon brunch event and afternoon (non-physical) activity in a local city. All at naice mid-range venues.

I'm approaching 40 and a reasonable size 14, but a 14/12 rather than a 14/16 if you know what I mean! Quite classic in style, think a bit Duchess of Cambridge/Sally off BBC breakfast!

Perhaps a shirt dress or something like that? Have you bought something recently that you love? Budget a bit slimmer than I'd like at £50 - please help!

TokyoSushi · 28/10/2019 11:34

Oh yes! I very much would, exactly my type of style - thank you!

Boden has 25% off at the moment which brings a lot of its dresses into your budget. I have the Bronte shift dress in black and wear and wear it:

I adore the Bronte dress @TileFloors and it just squeaks in at £48.75!! How's the fit? I'm just about to order the Ruby one I think!

I think the fit is slightly generous, if I were you I’d order a 12. Their returns policy is good so you can exchange if necessary. I love their ottoman fabrics, and they wash extremely well.

TileFloors · 28/10/2019 11:58

Sorry, on rereading, if you’re a 14 maybe order that instead.

Asos' own brand is really good and fits right in your price range 👗

TokyoSushi · 28/10/2019 12:04

I'm going to a John Lewis that stocks Boden tonight so I might pop in and see if they have it there - first event is on Wednesday!

I'll look at ASOS now too!

I've recently discovered Silk Fred. Loads of wrap dresses and midi dresses including plenty that are very suitable for smart every day wear for around £30. I'm a size 12 and just had three lovely dresses delivered for under £80.

I had awful trouble getting money refunded from Silk Fred a couple of years ago when I sent items I'd ordered, back. A lot of emails and a lot of hassle. Wouldn't even use them again, which is a shame as some of the stuff on their site looks lovely.
