Foundation new start - advice needed!

Since Lancome changed their Teint Miracle formula I've been struggling to find something I love. I was trying to replace it with something similar, with a dewy finish. But I've now tried Clinique Even Better Glow (not enough coverage for a day at work) and Nars Sheer Glow (just not as smooth as my old Lancome one). Various other samples but I haven't found one that I love.

So now I've decided that I need a foundation re-think. I used the same Lancome one for so many years, that I was trying to replicate what I used to have. It hasn't worked, so now I want to try to find a perfect matte finish instead. But I don't know where to start. I don't want to try hundreds of different make up counters. Can you please give me some suggestions of which foundation to use for a perfect matte finish. Should I continue using a liquid, or should I re-think that as well? Thanks

I should add, I know that everyone recommends Estee Lauder double wear, but I've tried it and I just don't like the texture. It's nowhere near as smooth going on as the Lancome foundations

Bobbi Brown Long Wear might be a possible. I find it too matte and use their Skin Foundation.

If you find foundation doesn't last all day are you using sheer powder on top? I have normal skin and I can never get a foundation to stay put all day without a hint of powder. I'm using B Brown Illuminating Powder which is not glittery it's just really fine and I use it mainly on the T zone very sparingly.

Any other suggestions? I'm going tomorrow. I can go to either John Lewis and/or Space NK, but I need some ideas of the brands to head towards. I need the perfect medium/full coverage foundation, that is the smoothest possible application and finish. For a similar price to the Lancome ones that I'm trying to replicate.
