Alterations on a fishtail dress

I've ordered a fishtail style dress, and even with heels, it's a bit too long (I'm 5' 2", and there was no petite option).

Is there any way I can have it shortened without ruining the shape?

Absolutely. My wedding dress was a fishtail and I had loads taken off the length. Still looked fab.

Thanks RusticFern. Am I right in thinking a seamstress would know whether to take the length from the bottom of the fishtail or shorten the dress itself and reattach? (If that makes sense. ) I'm not sure of the proportions!
