Sandals & Socks: If worn "with attitude", is it possible to pull the look off?

Maybe should have put this in Camping, but thought it might have a broad spectrum/cross-over appeal.

So, I'm thinking about my 'Holiday in Anglesey under Canvas Capsule Wardrobe'.

I like a nice pair of sandals, but of an evening also like a bit of warmth/protection from biting creatures. Obviously shoes is the answer, but would like to consider the sock & sandals combo further (as it does take up less space than another pair of shoes).

Now I'm as fashionable as the next (wo)man, and realise that the suggested combination is shall we say near to the top of 'things you don't want to put on your feet', but was wondering if I put them on with a 'Devil may Care/Kirsty Wark/Daniel Craig' attitude maybe I would get respect and comfort simultaneously.

Altogether not sure about this tbh.

However you wear them, you will laughed at. Even on a campsite!! Sorry, tis true.

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 14:17

ooooh, so sort of the Baden Powell look. Shorts, long socks and sandals. I'm loving the comfort angle.

Are you pulling my leg re v. next season...I am barely up to speed with last season.

What sort of sandals?

You see, this is where crocs come in very handy!

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 14:19

Yeah, but Kbear...what if I just pushed on through past the sniggers, you know and gave off heaps of "I know what I'm wearing, I am perfectly assured of my choice of footwear, maybe you should look within yourself before laughing at me" type vibes....would the sniggering stop?

No, I would still be in a heap and making remarks about Jesus. Sorry, I'm just childish!! And PMSL at Baden-Powell. I would wear jeans and socks and boots and be warm and chumfy and dry.

Kbear · 16/08/2007 14:22

But bless yer heart for trying!

Mercy · 16/08/2007 14:23

I do like 'chumfy'

winestein · 16/08/2007 14:24

I have gone out in sandals and socks before.

Luckily it was only to the bin and I managed to run back inside before anyone saw me.

But if you want to do it, do it. Feck what people think

Egg · 16/08/2007 14:26

My DS (18 months) left the house once with socks and sandals (his daddy dressed him as I was not at home). Even he, who is (of course) very handsome and very confident, looked a little foolish. However, they were brown sandals and red socks and perhaps with a different colour combo it might have worked.

Crocs with socks is surely a bigger crime though? Have seen people do that. Ugh.

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 14:26

Mercy a bit like this, but lesser strappage. They are sensible I will admit that.

But , But Kbear....if I had a nice top, and maybe a bit of mascara so the sum total of me was 'Oh she's looking quite nice', and then with confident feet...then would you still laugh?

btw I like the sound of chumfy...what is that a combo of?

[vomit emoticon] and thought of socks with crocs!

Egg · 16/08/2007 14:27

One of my cousins came to my wedding in shoes like that, teamed with a lovely dress, nice make up and hair etc etc. Just made it worse. If you are going to be wearing those type of shoes you want to do the whole look, forget the mascara and nice top, don't wash your hair etc and you will probably be ok... .

SenoraPostrophe · 16/08/2007 14:28

I wear socks with sandals all the time. saves getting cold feet / digging proper shoes out. nobody has ever laughed in front of me.

Mind you, I am not as fashionable as the next woman.

SenoraPostrophe · 16/08/2007 14:29

egg, do you ever wonder if there are more important things in life to worry about?

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 14:30

SP, do you suspect they laugh out of your line of sight? Or do you not care? I would love not to care.....Oh why can't I be a bit tougher?

OP posts:
SenoraPostrophe · 16/08/2007 14:33

I don't care really.

I like to look nice sometimes, but comfort and my own sense of style win over the fashion police any day.

luckylady74 · 16/08/2007 14:33

my ds1's paed wears them and his long hair with bald pate and long beard sums the look up rather well. i think in the dark on a campsite it would be fine - day time or a pub no no no.

onlyWotz · 16/08/2007 14:34

there is a pic of socks in crocs on this page

here

still not sure about it!

ChippyMinton · 16/08/2007 14:35

No, please don't do it SDG.
I have just spent a few days observing campers from the smug warmth and comfort of a caravan and...well...no, just say no!

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 14:36

Yes luckylady, was thinking that I would use S&S early morning (don't like dewey toes) and dusk/evening. During the majority of day time outs would have naked feet.

ChippyMinton · 16/08/2007 14:37

nooooooo

luckylady74 · 16/08/2007 14:37

much more acceptable with trousers somehow - less of the school uniform/boyscout

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 14:37

Socks in Crocs on Tots, dear God(t)s!
