Sandals & Socks: If worn "with attitude", is it possible to pull the look off?

Maybe should have put this in Camping, but thought it might have a broad spectrum/cross-over appeal.

So, I'm thinking about my 'Holiday in Anglesey under Canvas Capsule Wardrobe'.

I like a nice pair of sandals, but of an evening also like a bit of warmth/protection from biting creatures. Obviously shoes is the answer, but would like to consider the sock & sandals combo further (as it does take up less space than another pair of shoes).

Now I'm as fashionable as the next (wo)man, and realise that the suggested combination is shall we say near to the top of 'things you don't want to put on your feet', but was wondering if I put them on with a 'Devil may Care/Kirsty Wark/Daniel Craig' attitude maybe I would get respect and comfort simultaneously.

Altogether not sure about this tbh.

I'm so old, i have been on trend before - in about 1973. Brown and orange striped over the knee socks . Maybe they are up in my mum's loft?

JackieNo · 16/08/2007 15:12

Eeeuuww

ChippyMinton · 16/08/2007 15:13

and the point of them is?

redtoenails · 16/08/2007 15:14

no no no!
just as an aside socks and sandals are fine on children aren't they?

JackieNo · 16/08/2007 15:15

Well I think they're fine on children. But preferably ankle socks rather than knee socks, though tbh as long as they're comfortable, who cares.

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 15:21

Jackie, those links....I'm trying to get with them, but with my brown leather walking sandals.....i'm not sure if they go together.

(I'm not going for crazeeeee split personality woman on the campsite by the way......more 'I bet that lady knows a bit about fine wines and can dance' type thing).

ChippyMinton · 16/08/2007 15:30

Knit your own funky socks to wear with sandals?

barbamama · 16/08/2007 15:30

Toddlers - yes
Adults - no

Fimbo · 16/08/2007 15:30

Legs up chuck

Fimbo · 16/08/2007 15:33

Sure is Chippy - here

motherinferior · 16/08/2007 15:38

Well, the answer to the question as such would be 'no'. However, as you are combining this with camping, frankly I wouldn't give a damn, myself.

I have a quite stunningly awful pair of chumfy sandals I have been wearing to work - and I work in a posho office full of glamorous gels - because they enable me to pound the urban pavements and run for trains and suchlike. Once in the office I have changed into silver ballet slippers (which are far less chumfy and have given my feet a fungal infection) but the chumfiness won out. Like you, I tend to hope that people will focus other things. I recommend a low neckline. They won't notice your feet if they're in the shade

indiasmum · 16/08/2007 16:13

urm am slightly ashamd to say i have woorn socks with my birkenstocks, and very very long wide trousers. they were comfy warm and slightly unnervingly cool. and noone pointed or laughed. but then i do live in devon.

Mercy · 16/08/2007 16:31

indiasmum, people dress like that in London too - in fact some of my best friends do!!

Socks and crocs, socks and stocks = fine ime. I do chumfy, not fashion (especially when camping)

indiasmum · 16/08/2007 17:01

mercy- of course i maintain its cool dh thinks its traic and wont be seen with me! glad its not just a devon thing then.... perhaps its acceptable if people are doing it in the big city lol!

indiasmum · 16/08/2007 17:01

tragic, not traic doh!

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 18:25

Well blow me down, there was me thinking I was going to get a whole thread of 'no' and would you look at that. Seems like I can get away with it, especially if it is being done in London.

The knitwear for clogs is wonderful, partic the green noduly one, beautiful....'designed to be seen', well why hide away shamefully in a tent when you have a pair of hand knitted clog socks that are designed to be seen.

Once again MN has opened my eyes to a whole new world of wonderment.

We have found furry crocs for you - see other thread.

IdrisTheDragon · 16/08/2007 18:34

DS (3.8) feels that crocs and socks is an acceptable look. I am less sure. But encourage his sens of individuality .
