Sandals & Socks: If worn "with attitude", is it possible to pull the look off?

Maybe should have put this in Camping, but thought it might have a broad spectrum/cross-over appeal.

So, I'm thinking about my 'Holiday in Anglesey under Canvas Capsule Wardrobe'.

I like a nice pair of sandals, but of an evening also like a bit of warmth/protection from biting creatures. Obviously shoes is the answer, but would like to consider the sock & sandals combo further (as it does take up less space than another pair of shoes).

Now I'm as fashionable as the next (wo)man, and realise that the suggested combination is shall we say near to the top of 'things you don't want to put on your feet', but was wondering if I put them on with a 'Devil may Care/Kirsty Wark/Daniel Craig' attitude maybe I would get respect and comfort simultaneously.

Altogether not sure about this tbh.

please no

SP - I really don't worry about it that much, I was answering the OP [confused emoticon]. I definitely have more important things to worry about, like moving house in 2 days and not being anywhere NEAR ready, having twins coming in 5 months etc etc . Just making a comment...

Chippy, first link white socks with flip flpos. No all wrong, looks so comfortable for a start.

Link 2 with pink socks & birkys....well.....I'm not falling off my chair in horror. Lets say erm........Peter Snow wore those under his desk, that would be OK, I would still be giving him the respect.

LOL ChippyMinton (and now your name will be stuck in my head for days again...)

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 14:41

when dd2 was about 3 days old and I ventured out of the house for our first promenade together. I got about 200 yards down the road and realised I had mules and socks on. I literally have no idea how it happened and I am still (5 years later) saying hail marys to attone.

But if you are wanting to wear the socks/sandals thing to stop being bittten by small bitey things, then why not buy some of that Avon stuff it's great, it works on Scottish midges!

WanderingTrolley · 16/08/2007 14:47

If you go for the socks and crocs combo, please wear the socks over the crocs, so no one can laugh at your choice of footwear.

If anyone asks, walk funny and mutter "....Hiking accident....reconstructive toe surgery....encased in protective cast...."

hatwoman · 16/08/2007 14:47

I'm going to be really really brutal here. the sandals are such that that the presence of socks would have only a marginally negative impact...

ChippyMinton · 16/08/2007 14:48

i rest my case

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 14:50

hatwoman....what is wrong with my sensible sandals? eh....they are just that, sensible and sandalish......are you saying they have a negative impact on my overall breesy and outdoor type look?

OP posts:
Egg · 16/08/2007 14:51

OH MY GOD Chippy...

ChippyMinton · 16/08/2007 14:51

Ask yourself this - is it a look befitting the baker of some of the finest Victoria Sponges in the County?

JackieNo · 16/08/2007 14:52

Cod's right, you know, socks are in this autumn. Maybe glittery ones...

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 14:55

Oh buggeration. I am laughing so loudly at Chppy's link that have woken dd2 up.

But those people in the photos, they are not giving "the attitude".

Well i have to admit to going out on the town in black wedge sandals and stripey multi coloured ankle socks. Mainly as i had blisters, but teamed up with a sort of Gwen Steffani look. I got a couple of compliments on my footwear
But mainly from my hippy-esque friends
If you do it in a wacky and over-the-top obvious way you might just get away with it. Think of your feet as a feature, and have comfy feet. I know im going to get disagreed with on a lot of levels but im not too bothered

hatwoman · 16/08/2007 14:56

am trying v hard not to laugh too much at that fan-bloody-tastic site. dh thinks I'm working...

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 14:57

A HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

From Jackies link

"Remember this is all about functionality, comfort and looking spectacular".

That is where I want to be at, in my tent, in my campsite, in Anglesey.

I'm loving that sandals and socks website. Inspired. It's those green individual toes socks that are making my day.

My God - it's a lot more common than i ever thought possible.

Tin hats everyone - let me know when it's over and i'll come out from under the table.

JackieNo · 16/08/2007 15:06

Rainbow striped or fluffy? Go on, you know it makes sense...

JackieNo · 16/08/2007 15:09

Silver, but I suspect you need heels with those. Or slightly scary but appropriate?

Slubberdegullion · 16/08/2007 15:10

Jackie, from your link

"And, knee socks have made a strong statement as well. They are once again popular. Gone are the days when knee socks were only available in boring neutral shades. Now they have loads of color and presence. They are not only eye catching but seductive because they are dressed-up with lace, ribbons and patterns. My favorites are the ones with the lace trimming on top. Wow. I never imagined knee socks could look so great!"

Well I'm gonna have to go for lace trimming aren't I ?

ChippyMinton · 16/08/2007 15:10

I had a pair of rainbow striped toe socks from Father Christmas - should i start wearing them? With flip-flops?

JackieNo · 16/08/2007 15:11

Well, if you want lace.
