What boots to wear with dresses?

Need advice on what boots I can wear with knee length and midi dresses (to church)? Footwear and fashion have always confused me and I can't work out what type would look right. Blush

Unhelpfully, I think it entirely depends on what you like and what your preferred style is! I don't like long boots on me generally, so rarely wear them. However, I wear ankle or slightly higher boots with most everything. I do think that certain boots work with different length hemlines, so you may need different length boots depending on the skirt, eg I have some long skirts that go well with knee high 70s style boots. (Having said that, I once had a pair of red or dead calf length boots that looked amazing with everything, but it was 2003...!)

This kind of question always puzzles me! There are around 25 million adult women in the U.K. - it’s never going to be possible to arrive at a definitive answer regarding what looks ‘right’.

However, if you scroll through a selection of midi dresses, in this case from & Other Stories, you’ll see them worn with a variety of shapes of boot - all of which are currently fashionable.

And of course you may be wise to take account of the usual temperature of churches in winter. I would be inclined to wear the warmest things I possess.

Grin I suppose what I'm really asking is what style of boots could look good and appropriate with dresses for church.

Well, wasn’t that her told?

Run along now and don’t be silly. There’s a good girl.

I don’t see anything odd about the ops Question. I’d probably wear brogues or more dressy ankle boots. Perhaps less clumpy. So maybe not docs.

thedevilinablackdress · 27/10/2019 12:54

See, I would wear docs. Live stompy boots with dresses.
So we need to know a bit more. What soft if dresses? What's your usual style? What boots do you have already that you could try.

Hmm. Doc Martens to Church? I didn’t get the impression that the Op was a Doc Marten girl. Could be wrong!

Arket show midi dresses with long boots. Not the skin tight ones. Roomier ones. Also look at lace up ankle boots. Very fashionable right now. With heels. It’s a bit of a boho 60s look. Or try neat ankle boots but I think midi dresses look best with a heel. You could wear the same for knee length dresses but add in over the knee boots. These would also work with a midi dress assuming there is fabric in the skirt so the boots don’t spoil the line of the dress.

I wear Chelsea boots with mine - either in black or tan

thedevilinablackdress · 27/10/2019 13:54

I'm sure God wouldn't mind 😁

LaPampa · 27/10/2019 15:29

What do you wear now?

Is there anything you need to do which would dictate choices - ie repeatedly walk over those grates with holes so you probably wouldn’t want stilettos, walk on lots of cobbles or gravel etc.

Do the other people in the church dress up a lot or quite casual? What do they wear?

Is the floor tiled so Would softer soles which don’t tap as you walk be better?

I’d think about all that before I then started narrowing it down.

maidenover · 27/10/2019 15:41

I really like these and often wear them with knee length dresses.

I wear ankle boots, pointy toed ones with a chunky low heel. I wear those with all my skirts and dresses, even in the summer (I love my boots, it has to be really hot to get me out of them!)

Fly London Mes boots go with anything. They do all sorts of colours and you can wear them with dresses or jeans. I have 4 pairs Blush
