Non-white wedding dresses

Is it considered tacky to wear a wedding dress that isn't pure white? I don't like the connotations of virginity associated with white wedding dresses, given that there's no expectation of the groom to wear white!

I wasn't sure if I should go with a conservative coat dress like [[http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Charlene+Wittstock+Monaco+Royal+Wedding+Civil+UGb-28m4oJGl.jpg Princess Charlene's], or something more traditionally bridal like the following three:

(Note: I sure as hell would not be able to afford the last one, I just mean something in a similar style!)

Thoughts?

I live the floral wedding dresses- would defiantly go for something In that style!

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 24/10/2019 17:13

This was mine I loved that it was different to most wedding dresses and as it was my second wedding it felt more appropriate.
I like the flower pattern on the first link.

It’s not to everyone’s taste but I’ve never heard it called tacky.

PancakeAndKeith · 24/10/2019 18:59

I got married in blue.
No fucks were given.

plunkplunkfizz · 24/10/2019 19:00

Black here. Grin

You can buy similar styles from Indian or Pakistani bridal shops. A lot of them stock similar versions of the last dress as it’s in fashion at the moment. You just have to ask for registry dresses when you go in.

Echobelly · 24/10/2019 19:25

I got married in a blue calf-length bridesmaid dress. I'd have looked a right twat in a white meringue, and I'd totally have spilt something on it.

Nb, not saying people look like twats in white meringues, just me specifically.

LilyJade · 24/10/2019 19:28

My best mate got married in a dark red strapless gown, she looked amazing

SoundofSilence · 24/10/2019 19:32

Those floral dresses are beautiful. I would wear one like a shot.

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 24/10/2019 19:36

The first one is gorgeous, go for it.

Espoleta · 24/10/2019 19:41

I got married in bright yellow.
No one battered an eye.
Do what feels right

FAQs · 24/10/2019 19:44

They are all really lovely and still bridal without looking like a bridesmaids dress which one solid colour would do.

lasttimeround · 24/10/2019 19:56

I think they are beautiful. I dont think its tacky at all especially if you style the rest of your wedding yo go with it. I'd imagine theres tacky ish dresses in that style that look a bit over glitzy but there'll be lots of nice ones

LadyFlumpalot · 24/10/2019 20:08

Have you seen Chotronette? They are Romanian but I know a few people who have bought and they are a reputable company. Gorgeous, colourful dresses.

PhannyMcNee · 24/10/2019 20:10

I got married in silver/ice blue. I don’t think it looked tacky (but I wouldn’t would I Wink). Tbh, white/ivory did nothing at all for me so it was a good choice.

I think the dresses you have linked to are gorgeous so go for it and bugger what the traditionalists think Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 24/10/2019 20:11

I got married in a golden dress. Being super pale, in all white I looked like a ghost. And a coloured dress has more rewear value, which is fun.

Of your three, I like the middle one the best. It's delicate and pretty.

Zitouna · 24/10/2019 20:19

Have you ever seen Joanne Fleming Design? So many gorgeous non-white wedding dresses. This one is lovely joanneflemingdesign.com/2019/08/berry-coloured-wedding-dress/

WhoKnewBeefStew · 24/10/2019 20:22

I got married in pink and gold.

This is my two piece - always said I wanted to get married in red, but when I tried a red dress on, it made me look positively ill, so eventually chose the purple.

I always think if you don't want to wear white, why should you? Would you let tradition dictate what you wear on any other day?

I love those three dresses and if I was marrying now they would be just what I'd want to wear.
