Childs Farm products

I have psoriasis on my scalp, in my eyebrows, and on some parts of my body. Not as severe as my sister but noticeable nonetheless. Over the years I've spent a fortune on various products in the hope of finding something that would stop the dryness/flaking/itching, including creams and emollients recommended and prescribed by GP. Nothing has worked really, until I bought Childs Farm moisturiser from Asda - there's an unfragranced version and a grapefruit & organic tea tree oil one, and I bought the latter. I have to say it has been brilliant. There was a weird little area on the side of my nose that repeatedly just formed a psoriasis 'skin' and then loosened and fell off but it left the skin beneath it sore and itchy and 'weeping' a clear discharge. Sorry if that's TMI, I'm being honest because since using this fab moisturiser, that area on my nose has completely cleared up! Because the moisturiser has worked so well, I bought the shampoo and conditioner last weekend, hoping it would help my scalp. And it has! No more itching. Such a relief. Another bonus is that as a T2 diabetic, I have to be careful what lotions/creams if any I use between my toes. This is safe to use there and has also helped the condition of my feet.

Just wanted to share in case anyone else suffers or has been suffering same or similar and looking for something to help.

The product isn't expensive and at the moment they have a 3-for-2 offer on. Form an orderly queue! Grin

Fully agree! My DC has eczema and very sensitive skin. Child's Farm has worked better than anything else available in retail outlets and is better than numerous products prescribed by the GP!

Since we've tried CF I won't use anything else

1ColdFish · 24/10/2019 14:39

Not tried these but my baby has baby acne pretty sure it has been caused by the Aveeno baby wash so thankyou.

For psoriasis though, can I also suggest the Magik Spa dead sea mineral range (in particular the scrub) I have suggested this for people I know with really heavy psoriasis plaques and they think it is a miracle product.

RosesAndLilies · 24/10/2019 15:10

I found CH to be better than Aveeno for my DC

thenewname · 24/10/2019 20:45

Also doing the curly girl no-poo method (where you don’t use shampoo at all) cleared scalp psoriasis entirely for me so I recommend that! I think the sodium laureth sulfate was entirely causing my psoriasis for years.

I use ‘As I Am coconut co-wash’ which you can get in Sally’s and amazon. Brilliant.

ItsLeviOsanotLeviosA · 24/10/2019 22:20

Thank you for posting this. I’m at my wits end with psoriasis. I have it on my scalp, neck, under my arms, back, inside elbows and groin. I feel so gross. I’m using a Vitamin D prescription cream as steroids were making my skin thin. Although the cream stops the patches getting worse, they’ve not really improved. I will be buying up CF products and try some of the Magik Spa Dead Sea range too.

bobstersmum · 24/10/2019 22:23

Dd is very eczema prone and the child's farm products were no good for her, the only thing that works is regular aveeno.

Apileofballyhoo · 24/10/2019 22:26

I'm a fan of CF. And Moo Goo.

user1471504234 · 24/10/2019 22:57

This is the second post like this within the past few days. Hmm...

mysterysleuth · 25/10/2019 00:22

@1ColdFish Really hope the CF moisturiser helps your baby’s acne. I will try Magik Spa dead sea mineral scrub as I have not used that before. Thanks!

@thenewname What’s the ‘curly girl no-poo method’??? If you don’t use any shampoo at all, how do you clean your hair/scalp? Intrigued! Is that what the other product you mentioned is for – the ‘As I Am coconut co-wash’? If so, I may try that!

@ItsLeviOsanotLeviosA You’re welcome. I feel for you and understand entirely the sense of feeling gross with some of the places psoriasis appears. I really hope the CF moisturiser helps you, too – either that or the Magik Spa Dead Sea range, or both!

@user1471504234 I don’t know about a second post like this and not sure what your ‘Hmm’ means but sometimes people who have benefitted from using something that’s really made a difference to them simply want to let others know so that they can try it too, if they want. I do not work for CF or Asda and am not in any way associated with the product other than having bought it, used it, and found it helpful.

To those who have posted that they intend to try CF, I would really love to hear if it helps you as it has me. Of course if it doesn’t, I’ll be disappointed for you as I know what that incessant battle to find something that does work feels like. Its also draining mentally and emotionally because you get your hopes up and then if it doesn’t work…

Fingers crossed for each of you Flowers

So glad they worked for you! They did chuff all for mine, but I’ve been using Enstilar which is an actual miracle worker,

ItsLeviOsanotLeviosA · 25/10/2019 07:48

Thanks @mysterysleuth, I for one hugely appreciate the post. Will feedback when I’ve been able to get some of these products 🤞

PigeonofDoom · 25/10/2019 08:04

The CF supposedly skin friendly bubble bath brought my kids out in a rash so I’ll avoid, thanks.

I’m going to presume the OP is genuine because otherwise claims that it could be used as a medicine would be breaking the law if it came from the manufacturers.

Alsonification · 25/10/2019 08:10

Totally agree. I had a patch of psoriasis on each of my feet. I looked like I had been burned badly & the itch drove me insane especially at night. I tried the child’s farm (the one with the yellow duck on the front) after trying many other remedies that didn’t work. It worked like a miracle. Within a few weeks my feet were completely cleared up & it hasn’t come back. It’s amazing stuff.

ritzbiscuits · 25/10/2019 08:18

Great post! I use CF baby shampoo as part of a semi curly girl method. I can't get away with no shampoo/shampooing with conditioner, I get terrible build up on my scalp.

This is a great gentle shampoo that does what I need it to.

mysterysleuth · 25/10/2019 21:07

@PigeonofDoom Sorry to hear the CF bubble bath caused a skin rash for your children. I AM genuine and quite baffled by your statement that 'claims that it could be used as a medicine would be breaking the law if it came from the manufacturers'. At no time have I claimed or implied that this product could be used as a medicine! Its a PRODUCT. People are free to try it or not as they wish.

I'll say it again, I made this post to share that this PRODUCT worked for me and might work for others. I mentioned it being safe to use between the toes because this is how I first came to know of it via the diabetes uk website, where other T2 diabetics were sharing what's worked best for them regarding their feet. I bought it initially for that purpose but am so well chuffed with how it has helped generally that I simply wanted to say so.

PigeonofDoom · 26/10/2019 04:50

It’s a product that you claim has medicinal benefit and can be used to treat psoriasis. For you to say that as a personal statement is fine but if you were representing the manufacturer then you would be falsely claiming that the product can be used as a medicine to treat a medical condition. Have a look at the packaging on non-medical products (creams, supplements etc) and you will see they are very careful with wording (“suitable for use”, “eczema friendly” etc) to avoid medicinal claims.
See below- as I said, if you were the manufacturer advertising these claims you could be reported to the MHRA. Which is why I assume you’re not as Child’s Farm seems too big a company to make such a schoolboy error.

Good grief, you must be a hoot at parties. You seem to want to hammer home your point and this post has allowed you that. I have made MY point more than once and will not be drawn into a petty spat with you.

My original post happily declared victory for ME with a clear statement that this MIGHT help others, and indeed it seems to have since several others have posted their positive experience. You stated in your initial post that your experience was not positive as the PRODUCT caused a skin rash on your kids, for which I am truly sorry, but having stipulated this and saying you'll 'avoid it, thanks' - why on earth are you still here?

Reporting my thread to MN because I believe you may be a troll.

Child's farm seem to crop up in the DM or The Sun all the time with someone claiming it's a miracle cure, it's been going on for years so I don't think it's news as such.

Very (genuinely) happy for those it's helped but it did absolutely nothing for me or my DN (18 months). The shampoo and wash in particular really dried my skin out and I found it no better than anything so was a bit disappointed to have forked out.

Giving up gluten was the only thing that worked for me (which I did when I was diagnosed coeliac and noticed the change) and

Afternoon, all.
Just dropping in with a reminder that the best thing to do if you think someone is a troll, a spammer, or breaking our Talk Guidelines is to report them to us, rather than calling them out on the thread.
We've checked out OP and all seems above board here.
Thanks for understanding.

@mysterysleuth I use as I am co wash too. It's basically an alternative to shampoo, a lot less harsh
I do also co wash with normal conditioner, I don't use shampoo at all

mysterysleuth2 · 26/10/2019 21:06

Apologies for slight difference in username - had difficulty with my account today but Jo or Kim at MN will verify that this is me and I am the original poster of this thread.

@dontgobaconmyheart Appreciate that the CF products did not work for you. Hope you've found something that does. Really sorry to hear that you've been diagnosed with coeliac disease as I know that's difficult to manage but glad to hear that going gluten free has helped you overall.

@ClientListQueen Ta for further recommendation of 'I am co- wash'. Just had a look on amazon. Can you or @thenewname clarify that I'm looking at the right product before I buy to try Grin

ClientListQueen · 26/10/2019 21:16

Yes that's the one. They do a coconut one (the one you linked) and a tea tree itchy scalp one

mysterysleuth2 · 27/10/2019 00:35

Thanks again, CLQ. I couldn't see anything listed for itchy scalp first time I looked but did just now
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07TDLYZ2D/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1JSJYWUYF74TS&psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Have you used this at all? Do you know if it is as gentle on the hair as the coconut one? My scalp does get dry, and itches if I go more than a couple of days between washing my hair, so not sure which to get.

ClientListQueen · 27/10/2019 00:41

The coconut co wash is more gentle, this is the other one but it seems to be sold out everywhere at the minute! I like them both

Big CF fan here, my teenage son suffers from a skin complaint when he is stressed and he always uses CF.
A friend of mines little boy had terrible eczema and CF cleared it up in a matter of days . It's brilliant stuff and I don't work for the either Grin
