Am I the only one who hates Converse trainers?

I've owned 4 pairs now in different styles/material and all of them have given me horrific blisters and/or crushed my toes after an hour of wearing them.
I don't think I have particularly wide feet but when it comes to Converse it seems I do!

Am I the only one!? I loathe them.

I need a pair of casual trainers that I can wear with dresses, jeans etc that will stand the test of time- what are the alternatives?

OP posts:
Greenglassteacup · 24/10/2019 06:24

I think they are boring OP, they can join the pile of boring Breton top, skinny jeans and horrendous yellow fisherman’s jacket

CaptainPovey · 24/10/2019 06:41

Adidas Gazelle and Stan Smith - so comfortable. Both look great with dresses

historysock · 24/10/2019 06:44

I also hate them. They do nothing for me as they make my feet look long and they are cut too high on the foot which makes my legs look stumpy when worn with skirts. Superga much better all round for me and I've been wearing them for about 8 years.
I'm
Going to check out Adidas sleek on the back of this thread however. And maybe Veja just because Im a sheep and they are very in right now.

HMArsey · 24/10/2019 06:46

@HildaSnibbs what is the arch support like in those Toms trainers?

Converse are the work of the devil.

Fifteenthnamechange · 24/10/2019 06:47

SO uncomfortable!

DarkMutterings · 24/10/2019 06:52

Those of you loving gazelles - do they get better after the first wears? I got a pair in the summer but the killed my heels. I'm told they'll soften but no luck so far, they are still ouchy!

SoyDora · 24/10/2019 06:55

I loathe them for the fact that every grown woman wearing them thinks she is funky and unique

I love mine (not the canvas ones, mine are white leather) but have never once considered myself ‘funky’ or ‘unique’ Grin, so not every grown woman.

lotusbell · 24/10/2019 06:59

I had a pair in college in the late 90s that were suede and had thick rubber round the edge, my dad called them Bumpers Hmm they were really comfy but can't wear the low canvas ones much at all now, my toes rub in them and I don't have particularly wide feet.do your feet 'spread' as you get older?! Also, every pair I've had either the sole eventually splits or the rubber comes away from the fabric, leaving little gapes down the side.

AJPTaylor · 24/10/2019 07:05

Rocket dogs.
Dunno if they are cool but they are wide!

inwood · 24/10/2019 07:09

Used to love them until every single other person started wearing them.

NumberblockNo1 · 24/10/2019 07:20

I liked mine as they didn't look quite as bad to me as wearing actual trainers with my outfits.

I bought some stripy rocket dogs I really loved too...

But I now get leg pain if I wear unsupportive shoes... I don't have anything to replace them with!!

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 24/10/2019 07:24

It's the flat, no-arch-support, clown feet that I don't like. I have these which I wear with absolutely everything - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071734KPN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

Oldraver · 24/10/2019 08:12

I wouldn't wear them due to no support, so when I see them just think uncomfy

NumberblockNo1 · 24/10/2019 09:45

I can do flat shoes now Sad

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/10/2019 14:06

So my comfy converse are the 'weapon' style which seem to be marketed as basketball shoes, but yea I have really liked them its a shame I need to replace them as I cant find them in black and red anymore :(

1ColdFish · 24/10/2019 14:10

I think they are horrible, uncomfy and look like clowns shoes.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 24/10/2019 15:56

@Ellapaella - those Esprit trainers look lush! .... I think I might need to treat myself to a pair...

golddustwomen · 24/10/2019 16:02

Fred Perry Aubrey.
They are a bitch the first time worn but after that so comfy.

HMArsey · 24/10/2019 16:03

For those of us who are flat of foot, Selected Femme trainers are ace. I have two pairs, they're leather lined and have a curved arch rather than being flat.

Bobthefisherghoulswife · 24/10/2019 16:04

Vans are a good alternative, they do some nice plimsoll shoes that are similar to converse.
I wear both quite happily so not sure if they'll give you the same issue?

Bluewavescrashing · 24/10/2019 16:08

I have narrow feet with high arches and can't wear converse. Vans are much more comfortable.

ViserionTheDragon · 24/10/2019 23:55

Don't like Converse either, they were way too narrow and as PP said, very flat. Superga and Veja have beautiful trainers, I've got a few of each now and they're a safe bet.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 25/10/2019 00:02

I love mine. I bought some white ones in America and wore them for the first time round Disney - big mistake. But since that day they have been so comfy, and I have hobbit feet!

MangoSalsa · 25/10/2019 12:01

Too narrow in the toe for me as well.

gubbsywubbsy · 25/10/2019 12:03

I only wear the ox player ones that have padded backs .. original converse are bastards !
I find Primark trainers comfy 🤷‍♀️
